President Obama arrived Tuesday at San Francisco International

Airport for a two-day visit to the Bay Area that will include a visit to a Fremont solar panel manufacturer today.

Obama appeared at two fundraisers for U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer

Tuesday evening.

Air Force One touched down at about 5:12 p.m. Tuesday and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom greeted President Obama upon his arrival. After exiting the plane, Obama shook hands with Newsom and was whisked away by his motorcade, which consisted of about two dozen vehicles. The fundraiser was at San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel.

A diverse crowd of protesters began gathering outside the Fairmont Tuesday starting at 3 p.m., including tea partiers, anti-war protesters and environmental activists.

Protest organizers acknowledged it was unlikely any of the

groups would have direct access to Obama Tuesday, but said they hoped to inspire grassroots activism and draw attention to their causes.

Obama will discuss his efforts to create jobs and strengthen the

economy when he visits a solar panel manufacturing company in Fremont today, two White House advisers said Tuesday.

Jared Bernstein, the chief economist to Vice President Joe Biden,

told reporters in a conference call, “We’re excited about what Solyndra Inc. is doing and about the president’s trip.”

Bernstein said thousands of jobs are being created as a result of

a $535 million loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy to expand Solyndra’s solar panel manufacturing capacity.

Matt Rogers, a senior adviser to U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu, said one of the themes of the president’s talk will be that the stimulus bill is “bringing in private capital off the sidelines” by having the government, not private businesses, take the risk if new ventures fail.

  1. Disgusting how the only way we can speak to our President is by contributing money. And I say this as someone who voted for Obama.

  2. This really annoys me that a President; Rep or Dem fires$$ up Air Force One and flies around the country to speak on behalf of a candidate.

I hope the candidate is paying for the President’s trip?

    Just a thought

  3. The visit to Solyndra is only to “justify” the trip and try to avoid criticism. Reps do it, Dems do it. They spend $4Mil of taxpayer money to get here to raise $2Mil in donations for a candidate. Ridiculous — It’s not illegal, but it should be.

  4. Isn’t it wonderful that President Obama is campaigning for Boxer when the biggest environmental disaster in history is going on in the Gulf of Mexico! You have to wonder if he is clueless, or whether this is just another one of his actions that seem purposely aimed to damage the United States. His total lack of leadership in the Gulf crisis is getting so outrageous that some prominent Democrats are blasting him. The latest is Bill Clinton’s chief politcal strategest, James Carvell. Today he launched a blistering, angry tirade at Obama. Just another indicator in the last few weeks that Hillary is going to run against Obama in 2012. Obama is all speeches and zero leadership.

  5. My plane into SFO was delayed (along with many others) for 45 minutes while Air Force One got the President out of the way. We just circled off the coast for a while burning fuel. How green is that?

  6. I am one of the few still working at NUMMI in Maintenance and we watched him land his helicopter in our parking lot after he forced GM out of the venture and we lost our jobs. He then jumped in his black SUV and headed a couple of miles south to the company he used our money to set up. Solyndria is not viable and he knows it. Just odd he put us out of business and then used our parking lot for conveyance. Our President is the supreme incompetent leader.

  7. Obama is the best thing that happened to the US since Kennedy. Our country is finally heading toward the right direction. Obama 2012!

  8. Actually he was standing in for us…..visiting our $$. After all to stimulate ” selected partisans ” he has given 1/2 BBillion $$$ to statup Solyndra. We wouldn’t want these guys to hoof-it around drumming up venture capital like real job creators have to do. The other half of won’t start to be built for several years…. So it numbers probably won’t be reflected in this year’s reports. So if a family member needs a job soon…slim chance. Like in my family. The manufacturing company where my son works had 200 employees Jan 2009 (after the collapse), then 100 Jan 2010, 50 in March, and now my son is the only mechanical engr left, and a TOTAL of 10 employees left. They are continuing day to day in the North Bay, but definitely closing it’s doors…simply out of cash. No money available, Not from banks,Not from government. So how fortunate Obama found 1/2 BBillion $$ to give to a new pet solar project that will gear up over the next few YEARS ! It’s interesting how and forwhom ‘stimulus’ is found !
Maybe he’ll think about those INjustices while he’s in Chicago over the holiday, checking in on the ‘inner-city folk’. It will be the FIRST time a president in our lifetime skips Memorial Day services in DC…remembering those who have given their all to keep us the United states. Something in Chicago was is more important than those who gave the untimate sacrifice.. Probably a campaign in his old neighborhood….but we may not hear about it.
