Pleasanton Weekly...Please report on this. Let's hope it wasn't vandalism. That would make me sick! The fisherman is my favorite, right up there with the window washer!

A very sad waste of 18,000 dollars to rent them and ship them. How many statues are there? I wonder how much that fishing pole on the statue cost us? I hope Pleasanton has insurance. I have only seen the one's by the creamery and the kids say they are spooky and weird and they are the ones who told me how much Pleasanton paid for them and what a huge wast of city money it was. What fiscally smart kids they are! They should run for office!

Anyway, why did we get statues to line our sidewalks like a ghost town? I know that Gavin Newsom Mayor of San Francisco doctored up his empty store fronts on Market with art to make it appear to the tourists that there were renters in there... You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig. Downtown Pleasanton is a mess. There are so many vacancies...

At this point, the only person who should be held accountable is our leftist spend, spend, spend.. Mayor and the far left Democrats in her cherry picked city counsel who continue to push their far left ideologues of wasted money and bloated bureaucracies on constituents who don't want it.

I am voting YES ON 16 because pretty soon the loaded up union democrat liberal city counsel members will impose a hostile take over of our energy services like Marin just did. Oh and don't believe a word when they say "They have a choice" because if you do opt out, they force all residents to pay a monthly opt out fine from one organization and it gets worse: The forced vote requires you to opt out within a certain amount of time. If you are late, they impose open ended fines from a differnt organization form the first fees. Wheew! What A MESS our state has become...

The best catch is that when all is said and done, your paying 7% more than pg&e would charge... I am finding that the people behind the no on 16 is none other than BIG GREEN The environmental extremists padding the wallets of Al Gore and the likes.

Those people in Marin are on a carob and granola adrenaline rush. Or maybe their incense and body oils have gone to their heads... Oh, I know, maybe they are smoking thier calf skin Birkenstocks instead of their medical marijuana? Whatever the case that City Counsel is just plain LEFTIST WINGNUTS!

What? There are fisherman? LOL It must have been a waste of money because I never noticed when visiting Pleasanton.

I am not from Pleasanton but I make it a point to drive by Main Street with my kids to spot all the statues there. They love it, and I enjoy them. I think it has generated a lot of interest for Main Street and was sad to hear that they were just rented, therefore, not permanent. They would have been an interesting attraction the way the Eiffel Tower is to Paris or the Statue of Liberty is to New York (Ok, not that grand, but you get the point).

To those who thought of putting those statues on Main Street, I think it was a great idea that generated a lot of conversation and interest. Kudos to you. Just ignore the usual negative posters here. Those statues were waaaay better than that "ribbon" sculpture on Dublin Blvd/Dougherty which cost about what, half a million dollars? Check it out, it looks like an unfinished signage for Dublin Honda.

The Main Street statues fare so much better.

It was either someone from with Oakland, Livermore, or dirty Dublin.

WOW, we do appreciate you sharing your political views; although, that's really not what we're after. Hopefully you feel better after your brief tirade. We're just trying to find out if anyone knows who vandalized the Fisherman and why. What a shame.

Don't mind Kelly, his ADD/ADHD/etc. apparently kicked in mid sentence & he just flew off on some tangent. I just noticed the Fisherman sans pole just the other day & am saddened by the act of vandalism but was expecting to see something like this happen sooner or later. It might be a god thing that it was just the pole & not a more malicious act of vandalism.

Oh Kelly btw, Prop 16 is wholly supported by PG&E (evil right wing energy producers) who do not want any municipality to engage in ANY form of energy retrieval may it be from independent solar, wind, geo-thermal producers of from outside providers. They've got a monopoly on the power grid & don't want competition, shocker huh?

i think this type of vandalism is just unthinkable. it shows an utter disrespect for the community, other people's property and art in general. this act of destroying a statue serves no purpose that i can see.

what, did the perpetrator have a beef with the fishing industry?

this act says volumes about the values of the perpetrator. how we react and what we do as a community about this says a lot about our values as a community.

senseless vandalism like this has to stop.

Pleasanton made headlines all over for being the only place in the Bay Area that these statues are going to be displayed. An uncle in Missouri had a brief article about our town!! Now what? We are going to be known as the place where works of art aren't safe from thieves? To whomever took the fishing pole, great refelction of Pleasanton, thanks a lot!
