Thank You Bridget Melson, for organizing a respectful protest event. As a 30 year registered democrat I have attended both Pleasanton Tea Parties and saw nothing that Pleasanton should be ashamed of. I support gay and human rights but I am anti-overtaxation and anti-illegal immigration.

To 'Arthur' - Look in the mirror for a better example of intolerance and hateful language.
Additionally, go study the changes the AZ House made to clarify the term 'lawful contact'.

"Lawful contact" could mean just about anything, from saying "hello" on a street corner to a police officer responding to a bicycle crash. Republican House majority's Homeland Security research analyst Rene Guillen said "lawful contact" is:

"...lawful contact is essentially any interaction a police officer may have with an individual through the normal legal, lawful course of the performance of their duties. So it wouldn't just be those suspected of crimes. It could be victims, witnesses or just people who are lawfully interacting with the police officer where through the course of that contact they are able to build reasonable suspicion and therefore inquire."

So the initial contact could be anything. From there, it's all up to the totally subjective view of the police officer as to whether the person is an illegal immigrant. And for the record, illegal immigrants don't wear special hats or t-shirts indicating their illegal status.

I agree with Arthur. Perhaps Ms. Melson and her racist friends can move to Alabama or something. There is no place for racist and homophobe here in our beautiful town of Pleasanton.

DOCTOR Melson is more educated than most of you, so you should just listen to her and not argue! Her doctorate gives her the right to express her educated opinion. What are YOUR qualifications?

And just because the Tea Party now also supports keeping Mexicans out of America does not mean that it's a racist movement, just as our opposition to Obama's financial policies that have led this country to ruin are not racist rationalization of our distaste for having a black man in office. This kind of all reminds me of how we used to have free states vs. slave states. When ever African-Americans traveled in the South, they had to carry papers showing that they were free.

Reminds ME of when I travel to Mexico and have to carry papers showing that I'm there legally. If I don't have "papers" (it's called a passport) ... I expect that I'm going to get arrested until it's sorted out.

Now let me get this straight.

Obama will require all Americans to show documentary proof that we've purchased the (unconstitutional) Obamacare national health policies. Otherwise, we'll be heavily fined or put in jail.

But when it comes to voting or receiving generous WELFARE benefits off the backs of hard working tax paying citizens, you don't want these people to show evidence that they are legal citizens.

Amy, what is wrong with paying into the health care system? There was some opposition to the 1935 Social Security Act (sponsored by the "deplorable democrats") when it was enacted. Then came unemployment benefits (again sponsored by "deplorable" democrats). I think most people that lose their jobs or have no other source of income (when they retire) are very grateful for these benefits today. One day, people will look back and wonder how people survived without health benefits. If you don't like these "social" type of benefits, I would say just refuse them when it's time to collect. Do I think that illegals should benefit from these type benefits, no way. I just don't want to see legal Americans treated like second hand citizens.

Melson does have a tendency to 'speak out' on topics on which she has little historical knowledge or understanding. And, she does seem to be quite visible and vocal. She does not speak for the Republican Party. And, being a Republican myself, I can definitely say she does not speak for all republicans either !
Don't forget some in the tea party delight in tearing down fellow republicans, and even run candidates against REELECTABLE, INCUMBENT Republicans, which is why we still have Dem Harry Reid as Senate LEADER...every seat DOES matter for majority rule. Many, more ignorant newbie tea party type republicans, think you must LIKE a candiate, and that they must be platform PURISTS...'100 percenters', none of Reagan's 80% principle which they openly trash. Helping 'republicans' win is not a tp goal. Which is why Obama is safe, and senate and house are not.
