Now Bridget Melson is double-downing on her bigotry, with her new boycott of San Francisco after several city officials called for a boycott of Arizona following a new anti-immigration measure that was signed into law in the state last week. Web Link
So she basically wants to boycott San Francisco because officials object to a blatantly racist law which targets Hispanics regardless of whether they are legal or illegal.
Not surprisingly, Melson is a hardcore evangelical whose bigotry doesn’t stop at race, she is also an anti-gay activist who is quoted as saying “if gays and lesbians can get married, who's going to teach the children of the future how to change the oil.” If fact, you can watch her make this quote in this Prop. 8 propaganda video (she is featured about 35 seconds into the video): Web Link
So I ask you Pleasanton, is Bridget Melson the type of person you want shaping the image of our city? Is a racist homophobe like Melson a good representative of Pleasanton in her constant quest for media attention (see Sarah Palin)? As Pleasanton has become an increasingly diverse community, I do not feel Melson speaks for the majority of people in this city and she will only serve to divide this community further. While I agree that Melson has the right to say whatever she wants, she must realize her action have a negative impact on our community. I hope that more Pleasanton residents find the courage to speak out against the racism and homophobia spread by the likes of Melson.
