Why is it necessary?

If I have kids in my car, they answer the phone, or no one does. We let it go to message and they can retrieve it if we want. My feeling is, my kids are with me so everything is okay. When I drive alone I don't answer the phone, or I pull into a parking area.
I hate seeing irresponsible people driving while on the phone. It is tantamount to driving drunk. Most people I know, including myself, have been rear-ended by a moron on the phone.
The fine should be jail.

North of a $110! By the time "they" add court cost and a multitude of "misc" taxes on there, you'll be wishin like heck you had invested in a head set! Most people are incapable of driving and day dreaming, much less talking to their attorney about there up coming divorce case! Maybe you should text whilst your driving instead! Sheesh, no wonder the fines are so high

Someone I know received the bill for $150 and went to court to fight it. The judge told him the original ticket was $20, but with all the fees attached, the grand total was $150. It's definitely a motivator to go hands-free!

I don't think The driver was saying that there were kids in the car . but that the kids were somewhere else and might be trying to get ahold of the driver. Needless to say, This person was breaking the law. Keep your cellphones away from your body. Pull over to take a call. Think of your kids . What if answering caused an accident and you died? Then there would be one less stupid person to raise your kids. I think the fine should be $500, and no cell phone for a year. ( hard to inforce)

Co-worker said he paid $220 when all was said and done.

I see far too many people talking on their cell phones while driving!! Are we all that important? Or do we just want to feel that we are? I have four children, if my cell phone rings I will ask one of my children to answer it. If I am alone in the car, the call goes to voicemail.....

Remember when our home phones didn't have answering machines? The person would have to call back. It's starting to feel like "we are slaves to technology"....is that really progress?????

Please don't drive and text or drive and talk on your cell phone, the life you save might be your own.....or someone's child.

Geez, Ok I guess I'll be the first to give some balance to this discussion. Cell phone law is based on statistics that I'm not clear how it was collected. Are you? Have you seen the data? I've asked the congressman from Palo Alto (the author of this bill) to provide me the statistics or show me where I can read them in detail. No reply. Asked the same question for our local rep's... again nothing. Now I'll be the first one to call out a bad driver (and there are many!) but to give someone a ticket even though they are following every safety law of the road (speed, lane changes, distance between cars, etc. etc. etc.) is odd don't you think? Why stop at cell phones? Why not all of you people sucking down your large Starbucks coffee's that can't see the road when they tip their cups back? What about those of you that are eating food in your laps? How about selecting music on your iPod's connected to your car stereo's? Or even talking to passengers in the back seats? Get real people! Why stop at cell phones? All of these examples can just as easily cause an accident. Want more examples???

Each time I see someone chatting away on their phone while driving, I give them a dirty look and the bird. Let's help remind these drivers that they're breaking the law and we in P-town will not tolerate that. Join me in giving all those who talk on their cell phone while driving the finger.

Dear "Give 'em the finger" - question for you, are you watching the traffic in front of you while giving another driver "the bird" ???
