WHERE WOULD LOW INCOME HOUSING GO...??

Original post made by Joe, Downtown, on Mar 16, 2010

If the Housing Cap is "struck down" and does not survive an appeal then where would all of this "low income housing" go? Hacienda BP, out Vineyard way ? I don't know...I'm looking for some real responses, not snide or mean spirited remarks like "outside the gates of Ruby Hill"

1. Across from the MacDonald's by Bernal
2. Across from the library
3. Across from the Fair Grounds
4. On the stretch of road near Kottinger and Bernal (from the Shell out towards Macdonalds)

Stacey is a registered user.

Actually, there are properties already identified for possible rezoning. I don't know them offhand. One would have to ask the City.

Pleasanton is over loaded subsidized housing. ALL low income housing is subsidized. There is not going to be any more money for subsidizing housing. Right now cars have to carefully negotiate carefully thru the entire 'international village' area around Wal-Mart. All the bicycles announcing 'I haven't been here long enough to save for a car'....and all the dark haired mommas pushing strollers and ready to deliver another baby....more food stamps, children programs for US to provide....and most of ALL FILL OUR CLASSROOMS. Educators NEVER wanted to get into helping us deal with the problem. Instead WE PAY (LOOK at the school budget) BIGTIME for all the second language programs. DEAL with it. NOT THIS TAXPAYERS
problem ! ! ! ! LOW income housing. How about something for OUR kids who've have their homes forclosed. THIS is NOT as good time to be talking about subsidized housing ....that isn't for us !!! Low income IS SUBSIDIZED regardless of euphemisims used.

Wow! Cholo is actually getting close to right. As taxpayer's we REALLY don't need to give this any thought right now. THE church should figure out how to care for the 'flock' that they love to mulitply.

My philosophy is "you breed 'em, YOU feed 'em" .. and house 'em.

I was just talking to a neighbor about this yesterday. We both think that adding more low-income housing will change the tone of this city. We both voted "For" the housing cap to keep it the way it is!!

How can the state overrule the citizens of a town, after they have addressed the issue and voted on it? I hope the city council can find a way out of this!!

Senior, you are subsidized!

Most foreclosed families are subsidized!

Get Real, you speak as if you think you know...which you do not. Your broad generalizations are WAAAY off base ! You made a flat statement of which you know nothing, and exposed your ignorance.

Oakland is being sued for misuse of a tax (measure Y) - now, why isn't Jerry Brown making sure his city uses the money properly and is not violation laws? Why does he have to pick on Pleasanton? By the way, there is a city, Los Altos Hills that has absolutely no low income housing. Can't Pleasanton attorneys look into that? Pleasanton has plenty of low income housing already (look at all the apartments), so why are they trying to punish Pleasanton where there are some very wealthy communities with no or very little low income housing?

Sandra deGregorio: you should be required to live right next to the low income people you chose to look after when you joined forces with Habitat for Humanity and got Jerry Brown involved. Gee, what does your family think about your involvement in this?

I want to liver in Atherton but I cannot afford it. Why don't they build subsidized housing there for me? The lots are so large so they could easily subdivide and put in low-income housing. I would like to get on the entitlement bandwagon. Forget working hard to be able to work towards a house in the community I want. That is too much work. The government should allow me to live where ever I want, and if I cannot afford it, they should subsidize it. Seems fair to me.

The city has some areas they've looked at re-zoning from business zones into housing. As I understand, this is by the intersection of Stoneridge, Hacienda and Gibralter area? I'm sure if Pleasanton is forced to build up to the county (?) requirements, there will be more locations of low and very-low income housing.
