And BOARD members! And MAYORS. Yes-- all board members and all mayors- past, present and future. And bicyclists!

Ask the experts in this town (police, drug programs for teens and adults, etc.) about the increasing street drugs being used by our kids and you'd be surprised. Parents in this town are in denial and think their kids aren't involved with these drugs. I hope the Pleasanton Weekly does an investigative story on this topic (street drugs, gang presence in town) with the help of the Pleasanton police department. It is easier for the high school kids to buy street drugs than cigarettes or alcohol.

Unfortunately, this happens everywhere regardless of socio economic status. A friend who lives in Saratoga (the wealthy part of it) said that over there they raided a house because of marihuana. Apparently the owners were growing it and they got caught and went to jail.
Drug abuse is a problem in every neighborhood not just in California but across the nation. I hope children realize that drugs are bad for them, and parents should be more involved and watch their kids more closely.

"Ask the experts in this town (police, drug programs for teens and adults, etc."
My child took part in the D.A.R.E program during 5th grade and came home saying that if you smoke even one cigarette you will die, that if you have even one drink your liver will suffer.
I am all for educating kids about the dangers of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs, but when less than accurate facts are given, that is a problem.
The kids will eventually find out what they were told is nonsense and ignore it altogether.
So the experts would do a better job if they state ACCURATE facts rather than scare tactics that will eventually backfire.

Support local families in need
Your contribution to the Pleasanton Weekly Holiday Fund will go directly to nonprofits supporting local families and children in need. Last year, Pleasanton Weekly readers contributed over $83,000 to support eight safety-net nonprofits right here in the Tri-Valley.
