People like you make wonderful friends, and I bet your the one who screams out the window at the people who are illegally parked. People don't intentionally put their kids at risk, so be careful what you say!

James, I don't want to be your friend. I also don't want to accidentally run over your kid.
And yes, I'll get your attention if you don't display common sense in our neighborhood. You won't admit it, but you are putting yourself and your kid at risk and Officer Cornell at the Pleasanton PD agrees.
Watch for him as he does his job and tickets people who think they are above the law and putting citizens at risk.

I agree with you Steve, but I would also like to bring your attention to the residents who speed along that road and do not stop at the stop signs. Maybe we need police officers there to ticket the parents and the residents too.

There's too many kids in the area, both playing in the circles/courts and in the park, to have any motorists breaking traffic laws.

The police park in the Zone 7 lot almost daily, but rarely do I see them patrol to the end of Parkside Drive. The request I sent to their office this morning, was to patrol the entire street, especially beyween 3:30 and 7pm.

As a resident of Del Prado, I understand Steve's point of view. My house is directly across the park and many people do not show any concern for the people living in the area. They park on red lines, throw trash out the window and kids have egged our house on multiple occasions. I know this is one of the problems when you live never a park, but it's not nice to have to power wash your house down. Steve's point of view is a sensible concern but I don't like the threatening tone to his voice, leave that to the police Steve!

I also understand Steve's position and lived through the "discord" generated when we, as residents of Gatetree Circle, worked to stop the use of our neighborhood as off campus parking for Amador, which then turned it into an after school speedway. We also saw many cases of careless driving by parents when they dropped their kids off at the walkthru.

Be careful what you ask for. This kind of request returned our neighborhood to a nice quiet street, but also divided not only our immediate neighborhood but the Amador Parents community as well.

I'm in agreement with you Steve, but be careful what you write. It almost sounds as if you threatening people. You can take take action, but don't threaten the people of our community.

I think you might be right! Even if Steve is a police officer he is right, dropping you kids off on the right side of that road is dangerous. I tend to turn around and park on the left side. I have never seen people park on the right side, but I have seen them dropping off, but I would like to comment that police officers in this area are not above the law. I have seen police cars not stopping at stop signs. I have seen them not stopping when taking a right turn on a red. I have seen them speeding without their emergency lights on, and yet these officers are giving people tickets for the same things that they do!

Sorry for the tone, folks. James sent me down that path with the comment 'be careful what you say'. As though obeying the law was somehow controversial.
Yesterday afternoon, I had a parent stop dead in front of me in traffic to let their kid out. I honked to let them know I was behind them and then proceeded to drive the remaining 8 blocks to my house. This person followed me home, stopped in front of my house and yelled at me as I exited my car in the garage. As though I had done something wrong....
Most of the time, our neighborhood is safe and the people are respectful. But, every spring, we get an influx of folks, some of whom display careless disregard. I wouldn't care as much if my kids weren't also in harms way, but I don't want to see anyone else be responsible for a tragic mistake that is totally avoidable.

At some point most of us have broken a traffic law. That's the reality! People do care about their kids Steve, but as a resident I think your more upset with the amount of traffic coming by your neighborhood during sport seasons. I will agree that some of these situations are dangerous for children,but it is not only your area, it is every school, every super market, and as a whole the whole city. If we look at the parking situation as a whole, there is not enough spaces for cars even when the sports park is open. I glad you are sorry for you tone, it takes a big man to say I'm sorry. As a resident who lives by a park it can be frustrating, but that was my choose to live there in the first place. This has a a good discussion, by the good people of Pleasanton. Wish you luck Steve!

I have a response to the comment made by James: "People don't intentionally put their kids at risk". Perhaps, but I've seen a lot of parents do some very foolish and unsafe things. Some have been absolutely atrocious to the point where you wonder where the parent's head is.

for example, today I was driving north on i880 from the south bay back to the east bay. There is a place where the commuter lane veers off to the left and eventually rejoins the highway about 2/3 of a mile. As the roadways rejoin, there is a triangular space near the merging point that is large enough for 1-2 cars to sit. It's the type of place where you might find a cop sitting in order to bust people who are violating the commuter lane rules. Anyway, there was a car parked in that spot with its hazard lights on and the hood up. A woman was standing outside the car on the left side with her child, waving at traffic. The child looked fine, as it was merely in her arms playing with a toy.

I was appalled. It is extremely dangerous to be standing on the side of the road NEXT TO THE TRAFFIC SIDE on a busy freeway. Even worse in this woman's situation because she had busy traffic on BOTH SIDES. Furthermore, the woman should have never taken her daughter out of the car. She should have left her in her carseat. That's partly what hazard lights are for! It indicates you have some kind of problem. It was also very unlikely that anyone would have stopped to help because in the merging area, it's a tight squeeze for two cars and there would have been very little room to slow down to fit in behind this other car.

If she really did feel the need to flag down someone, she could have done so by opening her door (which she had room to do) and waving from just outside the car. She didn't need to step 2 feet away from the car door in order to do so.

Who are these people who make these comments?

You don't know why this women took her child out of their car seat. Perhaps the child was upset. Perhaps she was afraid of her car being hit by another car. I was traveling to LA when my car over heated. I took my child out of the car for fear of the car catching on fire! Why make comments when you don't know the situation! Sometimes people make decisions because they think it the right choice.

I THINK IT'S A PICK ON PARENTS DAY!

Traveling to Oregon my car decided to give up on me. There were four of us. My wife and two children. It was a hot summer day, no air conditioning and the car was beginning to feel like a furnace. We place our hazard lights on and then got out of the car and sat up on the banking. We had no other choice. Stay in the car and suffer dehydration or get out and cool down. Every situation is different, but before you comment, get the whole facts.

The last two people to post were not there, so you cannot be so quick to judge. However, I was, so I can easily comment on the weather and the roadway conditions. In the situation described it was extremely foolish to take a child out of the carseat. If either of you would have read my post, you would have understood this, unless of course you are unfamiliar with california roadways in that part of the region and furthermore didn't bother to go outside today.

Both of you would do well to retract your statements because they make no sense and only indicate that you didn't really read what I wrote. Is it 100 oF+ today? No. Did this woman have an embankment to sit on? No. Reread the original post and you'll get the message.

I think what the two posts are trying to tell you is to mind your own business! And how can you possible know why the women got out of her car, are you a mind reader?

I think people have gone off topic here. My advice to Steve is to contact the league's Presidents and ask them to spread the word that residents are unhappy about illegal parking. in the area. Why get the police involved when a simple e-mail might do the trick.

To Tim: it doesn't matter why she got out of her car. She did something which was very unsafe given the environment and roadway.

Perhaps this women didn't have a cell phone, no one knows the reason but we Americans are quick to judge others.

I live in Parkside and to correct a few things said, SteveP, Parkside is NOT a winding street. It is straight as an arrow. And to amy, there are no stop signs on Parkside. The stop signs are coming out of the sportspark and one on Arthur.
Parking on Parkside drive is not illegal, but you would think people would have more sense than to park on the corners. You can't see coming out of the side streets at all.
I have lived on one of the circles since Parkside was first built.
We fought very hard in the beginning to not let the street be opened up all the way through to Santa Rita.
The signal coming out of Parkside is a big problem. Often times there are so many cars lined up waiting to turn left that the cars trying to get out of the first parking lot have to make a right turn, then a U turn to get in the line.
Parkside is a great neighborhood, we are lucky to live here.
If you have to park on Parkside Dr just use common sense.

Millie, you're right---Parkside is totally straight---except that if you tried to stand in the road and see more than 5 blocks you couldn't due to all the curves in the road (duh!).
Parking on the south side of Parkside Drive (bordering the SportsPark) is and always has been illegal. As I mentioned earlier, there are No Parking signs posted every 50 to 100 feet. You can't miss em.

I'm not sure what Parkside neighborhood you live in, but it's not the one in Pleasanton, CA.

You did get one thing right---it is a great neighborhood, you should check it out sometime. I'd be happy to take you on a tour to see what you've been missing.
