Graffiti is increasing. How can we stop it?

Original post made by FoP, Pleasanton Meadows, on Feb 1, 2010

Graffiti is on the increase in Pleasanton. As citizens, we need to work together to deter/stop it asap. The youths that leave such trash are not contributing their time in a constructive manner, are --more than anything--a bad reflection of themselves and cause visual pollution to our fine community. Pls keep alert and report any persons seen loidering around remote walls, etc. However, calling the police is not the only answer. Our children are our resposibility. Or is it caused by persons venturing away from their own city? Regardless, there was no occurence a few short years ago.. and it needs to be stopped. We need to be a city of ZERO tolerance for graffiti.

The Police Department's Graffiti Hotline is 925-931-5245. Please call if you think something needs the PD's attention. They're really good about cleaning it up right away. The officer will take a digital photo of any new graffiti before it's removed, so they can track down some of these folks. Removing the tags immmediately is probably one of the best deterrants there is, so please take the time to call the hotline when you notice something.

Stacey is a registered user.

There could be an app for that.

I don't know what area you're speaking of in particular, but if its nearby your home you may want to consider a motion light. I always carry my cell phone with me which also happens to have a camera. There were some kids smoking weed in a car at the park the other night and as I walked by I turned around and took a picture of their license plate and made sure they saw the flash go off. They left really quick after that.

I think the point is to make your presence known. Let them know you are watching and they are going to get caught.

There is an app for that, actually...and San Ramon, Lafayette, Tracy, and a bunch of other cities have started using it.
