Budget priorities ratified at school board meeting

Original post made by Stacey, Amberwood/Wood Meadows, on Jan 13, 2010

San Diego is budgeting based upon looking at what needs to be funded instead of what needs to be cut. If a budget is a reflection of what is valued, this is how it is done. It will be interesting to see the outcome.

"The priorities are: Anything that would raise the achievement level of students, from the gifted to the underperforming; offering a comprehensive curriculum that includes art, music, athletics and college preparation; maintaining programs that foster diversity, such as magnet schools; protecting current class-size levels; fostering safe schools that have support from vice principals, police officers, counselors and nurses; and offering high-tech learning environments."

Stacey, This reminds me of Michelangelo quotes:

Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.

I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.

Knowing what is valued is where to begin.
