Original post made by Lucy, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Oct 20, 2009

Does anyone know if Stoneridge mall is doing trick or treating this year? IF so, what time? Thanks

Most of their kid events are now done through their kid's club, Kidgits. On that website (Web Link) it says that some stores will be distributing candy. It also has a list of events.

While I applaud the mall for offering such events, the nostalgic part of me longs for the days where kids flooded the streets running from house to house long into the night unsupervised. Understandably this was acceptable as all the parents in the neighborhood looked out for all of the kids (not just their own), where as today we're lucky if we know our surrounding neighbors. A different time....and I don't blame parents today for not allowing their kids to run through the streets on their own, I know I wouldn't let mine out alone.

Some know our neighbors and neighborhood kids and don't live in fear. Razor blades in apples? Yea, they said the same things as they do now 30 years ago. It was better 30 years ago is the mantra. Groups of kids still run around my house and parents uselly only arrive with the very young and kids that aren't trick or treating with a group of friends. I think they are there to enjoy the cuteness not as much for protection.

When I was a kid it was weird to trick-or-treat past 11 or 12 years old! My kids are older than that and still want to do it. The high schooler has gone on her own for a couple of years, but always in a group. My middle schooler has gone in a group & I have accompanied them - as said above, more for my own interest than concern for safety. I feel safe here, but always insist that my kids check their candy before consuming it. The same as when I was a kid: no home made treats or open stuff unless it's from friends.
