Another Obama appointee praising communist dictators

Original post made by jimf01, another community, on Oct 16, 2009

Anita Dunn, communications director for the Obama administration, went on the attack against Fox News last weekend. That made plenty of news, you can find over 6,000 links on google news for that, but try to google 'Mao Anita Dunn' and there isn't any MSM coverage.

Anita Dunn joins Van Jones and Mark Lloyd as the latest Obama appointee on video holding up communist dictators like Chavez, Castro, Che, and Mao as examples of people to look to for their amazing achievements. President Obama, who asked us to look at the people he surrounds himself with, appointed Anita Dunn as his communications director.

Anita Dunn told high school kids earlier this year to look at Mother Teresa and Chairman Mao as people who made their own choices. You can read the Wikipedia entry about Mao, refer to the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution as examples of Mao's political philosophy Web Link

No, Dunn didn't point out Americans who fought for our independence. She pointed out Chairman Mao, who established gulags and oversaw the deaths of 70 million of his own countrymen.

"Anita Dunn joins Van Jones and Mark Lloyd as the latest Obama appointee on video holding up communist dictators like Chavez, Castro, Che, and Mao as examples of people to look to for their amazing achievements."

I would like to see any one of these people refer to these figures' "amazing achievements." But I guess you wouldn't listen to facts because you listen to Glenn Beck, the man who apparently knows EVERYTHING from the ONE COURSE he attended at college before dropping out. Never seen the video nor Beck but just looked it up and it is true she did praise him. She also worked for Jimmy Carter and Tom Dashle so that will tell you a little about her leanings. She is also married to Obama's personal attorney. Just another retread from a past Democratic administration and is keeping with Obama's promise to change Washington by bringing in new people......right.

Before you go getting all crazy about the Mao quote, you should keep in mind a few things:

"Media Matters for America, a liberal media watchdog group, points out that former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, also a Fox News contributor, quoted Mao in a 1995 Roll Call profile.
"War is politics with blood; politics is war without blood," Gingrich said, citing Mao.
Karl Rove, another Fox News contributor, wrote in a December 2008 Wall Street Journal op-ed that President Bush "encouraged me to read a Mao biography."
Web Link

Throughout most of his October 15 Fox News program, Glenn Beck falsely claimed that White House communications director Anita Dunn "worships" and "idolizes" "her hero" Mao Zedong. In fact, in the video that Beck aired as evidence to support his claims, ***Dunn offered no endorsement of Mao's ideology or atrocities*** -- rather, she commented that Mao and Mother Teresa were her two of her "favorite political philosophers," and based on short quotes from them, she offered the advice that "you don't have to follow other people's choices and paths" or "let external definition define how good you are internally."
Here is what she said exactly:
DUNN: "A lot of you have a great deal of ability. A lot of you work hard. Put them together, and that answers the "Why not?" question. There's usually not a good reason.
And then the third lesson and tip actually come from two of my favorite political philosophers, Mao Zedong and Mother Teresa -- not often coupled with each together, but the two people that I turn to most to basically deliver a simple point, which is, you're going to make choices. You're going to challenge. You're going to say, "Why not?" You're going to figure out how to do things that have never been done before. But here's the deal: These are your choices. They are no one else's.
In 1947, when Mao Zedong was being challenged within his own party on his plan to basically take China over, Chiang Kai-shek and the Nationalist Chinese held the cities, they had the army, they had the air force, they had everything on their side. And people said, "How can you win? How can you do this? How can you do this against all of the odds against you?" And Mao Zedong said, you know, "You fight your war, and I'll fight mine." And think about that for a second.
You know, you don't have to accept the definition of how to do things, and you don't have to follow other people's choices and paths, OK? It is about your choices and your path. You fight your own war. You lay out your own path. You figure out what's right for you. You don't let external definition define how good you are internally. You fight your war. You let them fight theirs. Everybody has their own path.
And then Mother Teresa, who, upon receiving a letter from a fairly affluent young person who asked her whether she could come over and help with that orphanage in Calcutta, responded very simply: "Go find your own Calcutta." OK? Go find your own Calcutta. Fight your own path. Go find the thing that is unique to you, the challenge that is actually yours, not somebody else's challenge."
***emphasis mine***

What particular things did she praise Mao for? Was it meeting with Nixon, and opening the country to the West? I don't have a problem with that.

You can praise the some of the achievements of a person without endorsing the person as a leader or agree with him. You could praise Adolf Hitler for building the Autobahn and still detest the person as a ruthless despot.

So sorry I missed the offensive language, I really like an unhinged rant now and then - email it directly to me at gmail.com Joseph, you can guess the part before the @ .
Anyhoo, lets start with Mark Lloyd, who actually used the word amazing when discussing Chavez and his ascendancy to power. If you are trying to look for an actual quote of those two words, hoo boy, you sure got me there dude!
Joseph, I guess you have never watched Glenn Beck, because his talk show (which is opinions) and the analysis he does is based off of the videos and recordings containing peoples actual words. He not only claims to not know everything, he says straight out that he is figuring this out as he goes along. If the actual words of the people working for the Obama administration are not the facts, then please do enlighten me as to the actual facts. But keep it civil.

Stay Cool,

I have not been on this blog very long but it sure seems you answer any criticism of anyone associated with the current administration with deflection onto someone else or almost always someone Republican. Why is that? Most here are trying to discuss the current administration or the here and now not the dead and gone. let's just discuss the current administration and their actions please.

Mmm,
That is an old criticism on these boards, constantly leveled at all progressives that post here and not applicable to this situation. I do not "deflect onto someone else or almost always someone Republican." Since you are supposedly new to these boards and I am most certainly not, it seems you should refrain from advising me as to what "most here are trying to discuss." It is breathtakingly arrogant of you to try to direct anyone else's line of discussion.
What I actually answered the criticism with was the actual text and context of Dunn's comments, as well as others who have quoted Mao as frame of reference. I am curious why you would level your comments at me personally rather than the information I presented. Oh, wait - no I'm not.

Dunn offered no endorsement of Mao's ideology or atrocities rather, she commented that Mao and Mother Teresa were her two of her "favorite political philosophers".
Dunn also failed to offer any disclaimer towards Mao's policies and the result he achieved when referring to him as one of her favorite political philosophers.
If you don't see what is wrong about Anita Dunn saying that to graduating seniors at a high school speech, then I don't know what else to say.
If the reference were simply an attempt to hold up people who made their own choices and followed their own path, I think there are better choices than Mao.
So tell me what would've happened if GW Bush's transportation secretary had given a speech and said Hitler did a good job building the Autobahn? I somehow doubt that reaction would be limited to an outraged talk show host and a few blogs.
Don't hold your breath waiting for a White House correspondent to question Obama on Jones, Lloyd, Sunstein, Holdren, Dunn and their statements in light of Obama's own words from the campaign last year. Web Link

"others who have quoted Mao as frame of reference"
is misleading, the Rove piece doesn't quote Mao, it tells of GW Bush recommending a Mao biography, and doesn't go in to the reasons for the recommendation.

Amazingly, the Gingrich reference is almost an opposing reference to Mao, here is how Media Matters quotes that piece:

Schools do a bad job of teaching students about Congress, said the former college history professor, because they emphasize lessons about how things get done, rather than how Members fight. The two houses of Congress, said Gingrich, are "arenas for conflict" where "we sublimate civil war to bring people together."

Gingrich even quoted a political leader not previously known to be one of his influences. "War is politics with blood; politics is war without blood," said the Speaker, citing the late Chinese Communist leader Mao Tse-tung.

So correct me if I am wrong, but I think that is Newt Gingrich comparing Mao's philosophy quite unfavorably to the way we handle politics in America. Just in case you need help with the big words, sublimate means to improve or refine; to divert the expression of (an instinctual desire or impulse) from its unacceptable form to one that is considered more socially or culturally acceptable.

Further irony is found in the fact that Anita Dunn gave her speech in a school, doing a bad job of teaching.

Stay Cool,

never mind the definition of you being a progressive. I just found progressive magazine and read about it a bit and now I know what a progressive is and what you are. A progressive is Kevin Jennings, who is for gay rights and an admirer of NAMBLA or men and boys being together or being a pediphile. I will never respond to a progressive again now that I know what it means and now must use some hand sanitizer.

Jim F,
I apologize for my mis-statement. Rather than "quote," I should have used "referenced" or "mentioned." As in, he is a major historical political figure and is relevant to many different situations. The point remains the same. Given all the information presented, that seems a petty thing to pick out, but I do strongly value accuracy and would make the change as indicated.
I disagree with your assessment of Gingrich's use of Mao's quote, but let's leave it at agreeing to disagree.
I am going to assume your comment about "needing help with the big words" was directed at me, but if it was, I think you have the ability to debate without making unprovoked personal jabs, and encourage you to take the opportunity to elevate the overall tone of these boards.

Your feelings about Media Matters aside, this is the first time I have quoted from Media Matters, making the quote actually ATYPICAL for me.
Definitely do not comment on the fact that it offered the entire original text of her comments. You should definitely try to attack me instead.
You keep breaking that promise not to read or respond to any of my posts.

I just saw a video clip of Glenn Beck saying "Chairman Mao and Mother Theresa are my favorite political philosophers"...at first I was very confused, because I doubted Beck even knew who these two people were, much less found them admirable political philosophers, but then I saw an expanded clip and realized he was actually quoting someone else saying that and he wasn't saying that himself, so it made sense...the original video clip was taken out of context and he was just quoting another woman, so I went and found the text of her original comments and no where did I see her actually say "chairman mao and mother theresa are my favorite political philosophers", and instead it turned out to be Beck's misleading paraphrasing of her comments. This whole "quoted as saying" stuff is so confusing.

Which brings me back to an important matter. Why won't Glenn Beck deny the accusations that he raped and murdered a young girl in 1990. If he would just come forward and deny it then we no longer would have to ask him about the fact that he raped and murdered a young girl in 1990. Plus, he did it with the help of the founder of NAMBLA, but he won't deny that either. If it weren't true he would've denied it by now. He needs to come forward and say something to put this story to rest, because the longer he avoids it the more it shows that he's trying to hide the fact that he raped and murdered a young girl in 1990. It's all here at this website, if you don't believe me.

dear capitalized alter-ego,
I'm not attacking the messenger. I'm just asking why he won't come out and issue a denial that he raped and murdered a young girl in 1990. If it didn't happen, he should at least issue a denial. His silence is defeaning.

As for the "very dangerous person in the white house and he needs to be removed" issue, exactly what facts are you referring to that makes him too dangerous to leave in office? Is it that he might take a 500 billion annual budget surplus and turn it into a 1.4 trillion dollar annual deficit? Would it be that he might get us into a war against a country that didn't attack us and get several thousand american soldiers killed and leave another 30,000 maimed for life and cost the country over 2 trillion dollars? Would it be that he might turn his back on a warning of an immenent terror attack one month before it happens? Would it be that he might let an entire city flood and have his unqualified cronies run the emergency agency that's meant to aid people in these crises? Would it be that he would oversee the near collapse of the entire banking system?

Because if it's any of these, sure I can see wanting to pull this dangerous man from office, but since that man is already out of office, maybe we should respect the will of the 70 MILLION people who voted Obama to a 4 year term. If you don't like his performance, vote him out in 2012. That shows true respect for the American political system.

It is amazing to me that anyone would actually take seriously what they hear/see on a You Tube video...

If someone has factual evidence this video is truthful, please post this evidence. For someone to simply point to a You Tube video and apparently use it to suggest Beck could be a rapist and murderer, in my opinion, shows the depth of the individual. No matter how much I may despised someone for their political views, or whatever, I would never sink to that level...

Jerry,

I'm not *saying* he did this. I'm just pointing out that other people are saying he raped and murdered a young girl in 1990. And if it's not true, why won't Glenn Beck come forward and deny it? It's Glenn Beck's fault for not putting this story to rest. All he has to do is come out and issue his long-form birth certificate...er, i mean he has to provide some proof that he didn't in fact rape and murder a young girl in 1990. Until he does this, the questions will keep coming...

pb - you are taking this joke website that mocks Glenn Beck very very seriously. I mean, what I want to know, in light of the fact that this website was created months back as a big joke, do you have some sort of evidence or accusation to make? Do you have personal knowledge of a rape and murder of a young girl? Are you accusing anyone? Or are you just repeating an old, unfunny joke from a prank website? Hmm, which is it pb?

"It's here at this website, if you don't believe me". - Now if thats not accusatory, I don't know what one would call it...

Then in an apparent attempt to explain away his accusation, poster boy later uses the "other people" are saying" justification. - "I'm not 'saying' he did this. I'm just pointing out that other people are saying he raped and murdered a young girl in 1990".

If Beck told you personally he didn't commit this crime, would you believe him? Never mind, I think I already know the answer...

In my opinion, Glenn Beck doesn't owe you, or me, an explaination about anything...

Produce factual evidence or take the "spin" and go away. Won't work with some...

I think regular readers here know this, as pb's MO is cutting and pasting, never adding any original thought to what he is adding here. The Glenn Beck rape and murder meme was started months back and had gone away, with the exception of people attempting to resurrect it to divert attention away from the actual issues that Glenn Beck raises, Anita Dunn only being the latest marxist that Obama has working for him, following Mark Lloyd, Van Jones and a host of others.
But the leftists and liberals don't have a response, so they attempt to divert, attack the attacker, or in the case of our mainstream media, simply ignore the issues with Obama appointees.
Of course, they don't see any of this as an issue. The real issue, to them, is that Obama has not yet ended the wars, jailed Bush and Cheney, and rammed through single payer health care.

Jim f01,
I won't spend any time here trying to refute your comments about pb, as anyone who goes back to peruse his posts will see that your accusations are baseless. You wrote: "But the leftists and liberals don't have a response, so they attempt to divert, attack the attacker..." I argue that there have been plentiful responses, sans attack, by the "leftists and liberals," but your m. o. is to ignore them. That's fine, but don't accuse them of things they don't do. The irony of your position is illustrated beautifully by "Vinnie's" post, which reads: "I believe like others here that PB and SC are the same person and I refuse to respond to cheaters! Maybe they are neither but rather Obama's attorney, Axlerod, or better yet possible Anita Dunn. I do no one thing and that is they are in need of some outside time in the sunshine and maybe a date with a woman here or there." Apparently Vinnie, like others here, believes in a lot of things that are not true. Personally, as a heterosexual, I don't see any "dates with women here or there" in my future - unless you're talking about "girls night out."
So many assumptions being made...

If someone needs to use an "other people are saying"/You Tube video accusation of rape and murder "to try to show the absurdity regarding the demands over Obama's birth certificate", that's sad. As I've stated in a prior post, in my opinion, that also shows the depth of the individual...

By the way, prior to the "Oct 17, 2009 at 7:45am" post, there was no mention on this thread of a "birth certificate", until, in that post it was apparently used as a "cute" attempt by the individual to distance himself from the unfounded accusation...

I don't understand Vinnie's angle there SC, but what do you mean "go back to peruse his posts". You can see what I am talking about right here in this thread. If you want to go back, start off with the first time PB and I went up against each other, which was re: Van Jones.
PB's angle was that it was a silly thing that no one cared about. Well, that silly thing caused Jones to resign his Obama appointment, a resignation released to the media at midnight on a Saturday night, so the leftist media could try to ignore it. Divert and dismiss.
When I went after Kevin Jennings, PBs first response was to bring up GOP'ers Craig and Foley, and then say it was merely a smear campaign. Your own post in that thread addressed only Iraq and Afghanistan, which I did respond to, even though it was OT. Divert and dismiss.
Go ahead and give me a few examples of the plentiful responses that I have ignored.
