Matt -

Exactly what is the '...another way forward than endless war'? And now that you've elected a 'new national leadership...with a mandate to end the wars' and they can't/won't do so, now what?

In the last few weeks, the Obama administration has stated it wants to reauthorize portions of the Patriot Act that will expire this year and has reaffirmed that it has the power to indefinitely detain prisoners.

Hope and change is not a strategy. It is wishful thinking. And your wish that we 'admit to ourselves that war to end terrorism only creates more terrorists' is wishful as well.

If someone wants to kill you or destroy your way of life, what are you going to do to stop them?

Peace is not the absence of conflict. Peace is the end-result of victory after war.

Way to Go America!

"Peace is the end result of victory after war"

So killing hundreds of thousands of men, woman and children on the OTHER side is the RESULT of Peace for us? That OTHER side had nothing to do with 911.

I don't think the US had any choice but to invade Afginistan after 911. Terrorists were staging attacks on the US from their soil and the Taliban refused to put a stop to it. There was no other real choice.

Equally important is fortifying our homeland. We need to keep our economy moving along and we need to support our communities. One way to do that is supporting education. That can take the form of giving to schools, volunteering time, and supporting local parcel taxes. Education is one of America's true strengths. People in the United States of America create the greatest innovations in the world.

While I can understand how "keeping our economy rolling"(necessary for a sound national defense)and "supporting our communities"(necessary for a strong united country)would fortify our homeland, I'm not sure I understand how "supporting local parcel taxes" will some how fortify our homeland against those that are dedicated to killing us because we don't "believe" the way they believe...Perhaps I'm not seeing the "big picture"...

Don't miss out on the discussion!
