Why do children have soccer practice on spare the air days? Is it that important that children who are 5 through 12 run around in this 100 degree heat? Not like they are practicing for the olympics!!

I completely agree with you. What I find even worse is that my child goes to a local school that does not have a gym, and they are required to do PE outdoors in 100 plus degree weather and poor air quality. Many children have asthma, allergies, and other respiratory problems that are made worse by this situation. I think our politicians need to look at making a change in the PE Standards our schools seem so concerned about meeting every day. Why ignore your health by being so physically active, when it's not healthy on a Spare the Air Day. No one should be running on a day like today, even my child's pediatrician agrees.

Speak to your coach. My daughters practice was canceled- soccer is optional and if your coach won't cancel, keep you child home- easy!

I totally agree!!! Everytime I see these kids out running around in this heat I just can't believe it!! Also, at school they should'nt have P.E. outside when it is so hot, especially on the blacktop where it is several degrees hotter! Another thing that gets me upset is the people sitting in their cars waiting for their kids to get out of school with the engine running!! Don't they realize they are wasting gas and making the air quality worse?
