Perhaps this has been covered before, but we just got our recycling bins and the list of things that can and cannot be put into them.
Since we won't have the Blue Bags any more, what are we supposed to do with the shredded paper that fills a Blue Bag now. If it gets dumped directly into the recycling bin - when that is dumped into the truck, it will probably also be liberally scattered all over the neighborhood. Plastic bags are not supposed to go into recycling -
so what about sheets of paper & shredded?

You're right...the streets will be a mess, especially when the wind blows, because they won't allow recyclables in plastic bags. It will be loose and some of it will fly the same way the garden waste flys when the green cans are dumped. Everytime the green can is emptied, and there is usually a third to a quarter of the waste remaining in the can,I have to sweep the gutter, and I'll bet something like that happens with the recycle can.

I plan on putting it into a bag anyway, and then putting the bag in the recycle bin. At least that way it doesn't scatter and it makes it easy to pull out of the recyclables at PGS should they choose to do so.

What I am more concerned about is the amount of plastic items that are recyclable that they wont let us put in. Anything marked with the recyclable triangle can be recycled but Pleasanton Garbage is sending 50% of it to a landfill because its a wide mouth container. Also plastic bags are recyclable, if grocery stores can recycleit why cant Pleasanton Garbage, it seems like a giant step back to me.

I've tried all day today to get through to PGS to get an answer to the shredded paper question, but got a busy signal every time. Well,
according to the schedule, we have another week before the recycling can is picked up, so may we can get some questions by then.
