Simple check from CA smog check history shows that this car never went thorugh smog check, which means one of the following
1. Plates are fake
2. Car never been registered
3. Car is out of state
4. Samaritan did not get the correct license plate

There was no vehicle year stated. All the information could be right and it's just not be in the smog database because it's older than 1975.

If you or the Police haven't already, you might want to try to find some of the stuff the person threw out of his vehicle while trying to escape. There might be some information or a receipt in there that can help ID him or the places he goes to. Meanwhile I am glad to help by keeping a look out (that's what neighbors in a community do for each other). I will post again to this forum if I happen to see the vehicle.

Did you report this as a hit and run? The police can then pull records.
When in college I had someone rearend my car. I immediately got the vehicle ID number off the dash of their car, make, model and color of the car. The owner gave me a fake ID and the plates were altered but I personally was able to track the car down because I had the ID number and reported it as a hit and run. I used the info the police department supplied me and was able to follow a trail of the sale of the car and eventually found the person who hit me. Boy were they surprised when they got my call and then showed up! Moral of the story - always get a vehicle ID if possible before taking down or exchanging any other info. I also carry my digital camera in my purse on a daily basis which has come in handy and have but a disposable camera in the glove compartment of my kids cars.

If you have the license plate number why not give that info to the police then they can track down the owner? Also, the owner of the BMW should just give that license plate number to their insurance company and they'll track down the owner.
Something about this story seems a bit off.

Now I know why this seems odd to me. If you have the license plate number and gave it to the police they would obviously be able to find the owner so why would you be asking the public to locate this person? Could it be that you don't want to have the police find the person, maybe this is someone you are stalking or trying to harrass, etc.

Did you check the Laguna Vista neighborhood? I might have seen a truck around that looked like that but I can't be sure. If they were on that cross street, chances are they could possibly live in/visit Laguna Vista. There are a bunch of streets and carports to park the truck in. I would take a look in the neighborhood. But call the police if you see the truck instead of approaching the guy! Obviously he doesn't care.
I also witnessed a hit and run and went on a HIGH speed chase to follow the lady, all while on the phone to Pleasanton Police.Our help, and the ability to get his license helped the police find the guy.
EVERYONE should have the number to Pleasanton Police on speed dial. Often when you dial 911, you can't get through until its to late. The NONemergency line is 925-931-5100and if its an EMERGENCY dial 925-373-5400.

It appears others witnessed this event and chased after the guy? Perhaps he was working in the area-should look into anyone who had work done on their property during that time. It would be a very good idea to check the garbage bags for more information. Lic. plates can be switched or manipulated too.If they were able to read the license, they should have been able to see the full plate. Therefore, they should know whether it is a California or out-of-state plate. It does seem odd the police can not track this guy with the information they already have. Collecting the vehicle i.d. was a great suggestion. I will remember that. Often times after experiencing an accident people are in shock. They do not always remember to do all of these things. I am sure the person struck was in shock after watching someone reverse and plow into them in the middle of the day.

How many trucks/drivers, minus the license plate number given, do you suppose there might be in the Tri-Valley/East Bay that fit the description given...
I'm guessing more than one, or two, or three. or ______(You fill in the blank)...

Great advice about adding emergency and non-emergency numbers to your cell phone. I double checked the emergency and non-emergency phone numbers with the phonebook and I found that the Emergency number is 925 931-5122 and non-emergency number is 925 931-5100. A previous poster gave a different emergency number and I am not sure if that number is correct. I just had my teen and it to her cell as well, do your loved ones have the number in their phones?
