Sarah Pailin QUITS!!

Original post made by Jon, Danbury Park, on Jul 3, 2009

Just what the doctor ordered!!.....

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin shocked the political word Friday by announcing that she will step down at the end of the month and transfer power to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell.

Palin made the announcement from her home in Wasilla, flanked by her husband, Todd, and family and state commissioners.

The announcement came on the same week that one of her top public health officials says she was forced out of office because Palin felt she wasn't in step on social issues.

Palin's decision now allows her to avoid the difficult task of running for president while serving as governor.

Todd Palin told FOX News that his wife will concentrate on "doing the things for Alaska and the country" that she is passionate about and can not do as governor with the limitation and constant opposition she deals with within the state.

Palin, who defeated incumbent Gov. Murkowski in a primary in 2006,.gained national prominence when GOP presidential candidate John McCain picked her as his running mate last year. But her approval ratings in the state have skidded in recent months.

Palin has been dogged in recent months by ethics inquiries. Her office last month announced the 15th dismissal of an ethics complaint against her or one of her staff.

On Wednesday, Beverly Wooley, who has worked more than 20 years in public health in Alaska, most of it with the municipality of Anchorage, ended her stint as state public health director.

She's the second top health official to leave within days. The state's chief medical officer, Jay Butler, left in late June after declining to take on Wooley's job along with his own. He now is in Atlanta, overseeing a U.S. Centers for Disease Control task force on a vaccine to protect against the H1N1 flu virus.

It's never going to happen and the Repulican party is awash. One by one their potential candidtate are getting BUSTED!

This qoute from the artile on CNN says it ALL:

"Either Sarah Palin is leaving the people of Alaska high and dry to pursue her long shot national political ambitions or she simply can't handle the job now that her popularity has dimmed and oil revenues are down," DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse said.

"Either way, her decision to abandon her post and the people of Alaska who elected her continues a pattern of bizarre behavior that more than anything else may explain the decision she made today."

Quote from the Washington Post:

'Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) announced this afternoon she will resign from office on July 26 and return to private life, a stunning decision by last year's Republican vice presidential candidate to leave office before the end of her first term.

Palin to Resign as Alaska Governor on July 26

"We know we can effect positive change outside government at this moment in time on another scale and actually make a difference for our priorities," Palin said in a news conference alongside a lake in her hometown of Wasilla, Alaska.

I just wonder if McCain became president and had a hear attach, promptly Palin to take over, if she would have QUITE!

Sarah is going to become a national political leader by running for Congress and will build a base for a future national office. Like it or not there is only one reason we are talking about a govenor from Alaska on the Friday of a holiday weekend...she is a star and will go on to do things that we'll keep talking about.

If the "left" wasn't worried about her, and I do mean worried, no one would be talking about her...she is a star in the Republican party.

"she is a star in the Republican party."

That is scary! I voted for Obama not because I was convinced about his ideas but because McCain selected Palin as his VP nominee!

Besides, let's assume the GOP truly considered Palin the star of their party.... this quitting will change that.

Quiters cannot possibly lead a party. Think about it: she quit less than 3 years into her term as governor, so why would anyone elect someone who will quit when things get a bit tough (media, oil revenues, tensions with legislature)? Even a highly respected, educated person would not be much of a leader if he/she decided to quit and not finish the job he/she was elected to do.

This Palin quitting as governor is great news, because now the GOP can start looking serious again and have a chance to challange Obama in 2012 - something needed given Obama's awful policies especially on healthcare.

"This Palin quitting as governor is great news, because now the GOP can start looking serious again and have a chance to challange Obama in 2012 - something needed given Obama's awful policies especially on healthcare.

This statement is confusing. I meant to say that Palin quitting as governor is great news because it gives her zero chance to be a presidential candidate in 2012.... even the right wing extreme folks who for some reason admired Palin, will realize that someone who quit before her term as governor was over is not a good choice .

Palin out of sight from GOP events will increase the GOP's chances to look serious and challenge Obama in 2012 - something truly needed since Obama's polices especially healthcare are not a good thing.

Amen, Anonymous! While I supported the very capable and experienced McCain, his choice of Sarah killed it for me. And the party for that matter. Sarah's entrance as a 'godhead' for the GOP has lost it its momentum, focus, and its mission, not to mention its CORE!

GOP, you blew it, and are hopefully working on a reorganization strategy and a better plan for your future.....or no comeback for you. We simply cannot have this model in a modern world. (not to say that Obama has found the proper niche, either!)

Quitters??? Didn't Obamaski 'quit' the Senate the day he was elected and start his run for the Presidency?? Didn't he run a 2 year campaign?? Didn't he vote 'present' on the majority of bills introduced?? Didn't he 'not' ever sponsor a bill himself??

Wasn't McCain behind in the polls before he chose Sarah and didn't 'she' rejuvenate the campaign?? Didn't she show that 'she' was the one who brought out the crowds?? Wouldn't McCain have tanked worse than he did without her??

Sarah is the only Republican who has the ability to draw the party back to conservative values.

Even Democrats are admitting that we can't afford Obama. Why won't he show his long form birth certificate and release his college records??

"The one that rings most hollow is, she doesn't want to put Alaska through the terror of [her] being a lame-duck governor," Will said. "If she is just weary of it, one can understand that. Still, she made a contract with [voters] to serve out her term. And she said, in her own words, she now is a quitter."

"We have accomplished so much, and there's much more to do, but my family and I determined after prayerful consideration that sacrificing my title helps Alaska most," she said. "And once I decided not to run for re-election, my decision was that much easier. I've never been one to waste time or resources."

She also complained that too much time and too many taxpayer dollars were going toward fighting ethics investigations and that the mainstream media were continuing with unfair attacks on her and her family.

Politics aside,if you simply look at this woman with any degree of objectivity,it is quite sad for our country that she was almost a heartbeat away from being our leader. She is very good with the teleprompter reading a prepared speech because she has charisma but she clearly showed she has no depth of knowledge on any issues. She is without any question the most uninformed, uneducated national figure in our history.Throw in her personal religious beliefs and wow...what a comment this is on 38% of our nation.Very ,very scary.

No one is envious of Palin.People who care about someone's depth of knowledge of all the problems in our very complicated world are scared to death of her because to be quite frank she is incompetent regarding the office of President of the United States. How anyone could possibly want her to lead the free world is utterly amazing. The ONLY talent she has is she is good in front of a camera in a scripted situation.I resent the fact that someone so unqualified is trying to gain the most important job in the world and it scares the heck out of me that so many people would actually vote for her.It is very sad actually and quite alarming.

And her looks and family life make her a good leader? Her good moral values don't seem to match her family life. What I can't understand is why she would say "And once I decided not to run for re-election, my decision was that much easier. I've never been one to waste time or resources." Why did she run in the first place...so she could go for re-election? This is the mentality we value in a national leader?

Great post. The posts that followed yours, and those that will most likely follw mine, don't understand the point. You are speaking above the level of morality of most of the posters here, so therefore, it doesn't compute in their mind as to why Sarah is a terrific candidate for any office. Sarah's words don't penetrate the lack of common sense they have available to them. Sarah strives for the true American values, not those of Europe that liberals try to impose.

Thanks for posting, the vast majority of us that believe like you typically keep ourselves above the level of this mire and don't bother to post. I think you made an excellent point.

I believe that Sarah Palin represents the values which have made america great and for that reason the america haters of the world want to bring her down and they are failing miserably at it as they only comments that can make are ones which are without substance and basically only name calling. I also find it odd that so many are willing to just watch us march down the wrong path and when confronted with facts can only state "what about Bush!" because no one can logically explain how what Obama is doing is right or moral so they don't. I also find it interesting that Obama and his disciplines are appauled by water being poured down 3 terrorists throats but at the same time vote for the murder of millions of babies by the most cruel methods possible.

If she runs for president, she will guarantee an Obama second term, so you right wing folks should really decide if that is what you want. As an independent voter, I will support a good candidate, whether republican or democrat. I had no choice but to support Obama even though I did not agree with his ideas... but the thought of someone like Palin anywhere near Washington was much too scary. The woman sets women's right back many years, and she is just not that informed on the issues. Her interviews were embarassing. In my opinion, she comes across as quite ignorant and not very smart.

I can't believe that yet again people who don't care for Sarah Palin are being accused of being jealous of her. Are you saying that those of you who despise Obama are jealous of him? Julie,

think about it and you can figure out what 'Pro Death" people are as it is the opposite of "Pro Life" it is just that Pro Choice does not sound as lethal does it? If you have ever seen an aborted child (and I have) it was a human being which was killed very simple.

Thanks John, I knew exactly what you were saying.

Labeling anyone "Pro Death" is offensive and inflammatory. People who use the term "pro-choice" do so because it is the accepted and accurate term for that viewpoint, not because it sounds "less lethal".

Just because some people see the world in only opposites or only in black and white does not mean we all do. A pro-choice person is not "pro-death" just as a "pro-life" person is not necessarily "anti-choice".

I've seen a lot of things in my life, but never anyone who was "Pro Death".

When was the last time you saw a young white christian family, pushing around a deformed and retarded black crack baby or child?

The in thing for the white Christians is babies from china! What would the pro lifers, the republican conservatives think of all the public assistance fund, that would be needed to take care of these kids if abortion were illegal? Andy,

Well, here I am to burst your bubble. I've never posted, but feel I have to after reading yours.

I am the parent of two children through the fost-adopt program localy. My kids were born to a drug addict in Oakland - both are from the same mom. When I took my son in at 11 months, she was already pregnant again. She got that way by selling herself to get drugs direct (cheaper than buying the drugs for money...or as my husband learned, she gets more drugs for sex than cash). Anyway, we are that white Christian couple, as you call it, but our family looks like a reverse Oreo cookie with my husband and I squishing our sweet babies in the middle.

I go to support groups and other socials to stay in touch with other families like ours and there are a lot of us in the Bay Area. The thing is, a lot of the fost-adopt families like ours move away after the adoption goes through because of the less liklihood of the birth parent finding us and interrupting the child's life, etc. It is hard choice to constantly feel in protection-mode over my children.

Don't ever sit back and say that a white Christian couple's "in" thing is adopting a baby from China or anywhere else. Do you know how devestating it is to not be able to have your own child? While we chose to adopt our kids never trying to have ours biologically - it's because this was what was intended for us. Don't even go there - you have no idea what motivates people to adopt from Asia, South America, Africa, Russia, etc. You don't know who you are talking to when you make those comments and what experiences we've had.

What we can tell you is that we love our kids, are so thankful she had them for us and our only regret is that we cannot adopt more (our kids have some medical issues and behavior/development issues and need a lot of resources).

I work as a nurse at night and weekends to afford to stay home with them. It's our priority.

I personally was looking forward to Sarah in the White House because she would have been an advocate for kids with special needs, among her many, many, qualifications.

"Response to Andy": What a beautiful thing you have done - not only to open your home to those children, but to do so knowing all of the physical and behavioral challenges they would face. I'll admit, I don't think I could do it - but I certainly admire those who can.

John, I am pro-choice. No video will change my mind. Besides, I've studied infant development and am well aware exactly what a fetus looks like during every week of its development. And while you may not like the term, it *is* a fetus if its not born yet. A "baby" has been born and exists outside of the mother's body.

I am still not "pro death of a fetus". I am pro "no unwanted pregnancies". I am "pro education" (& not just of abstinence like Ms. Palin). I would prefer that all fetuses develop without any devastating diseases or conditions. It may even surprise you that I would most likely encourage a woman considering abortion to have her baby and give it up for adoption. I do not believe in abortion as the only or best choice.

"Late term" abortions are likely the least common. I'm sure there are stats, but I don't feel like taking more time to look them up.

Julie, Regardless of one's leaning on the abortion issue, it just fries me when the "pro-choicers" use that cleaned-up, nicely democratic sounding term. It IS "pro-death" of the fetus. The most equitable and accurate way to refer to the two sides is "pro-life" and "pro-death", but the one side had to clean it up and package it up and package it with a bow to sell it to the public and take away the demons associated with ending a life. That is the fact. As harsh as I may sound, I am for abortion, but won't go into my reasons here.

Regarding late term abortions, a baby is a baby whether it is referred to as a 'fetus' while inside because it is 'viable' at the very same time. That is the sickening part. The stats show that doctors will perform an abortion (cause the death of a fetus/baby) not only for critical medical reasons, but also for irresponsible, 'changed my mind to late' reasons. Some of those doctors have quit the business after years of their slaughter and come forward with the reality of what they've done. This is the part I am so staunchly against.

Taken Aback-

These might be heavy social discussions, but they are about people's passions about their beliefs. Sharing them is not a crime. If you are uncomfortable, then you could have crossed the street without even a comment, but you, too, wanted to put your two cents in.

See, we all want to share our thoughts. I don't think it means we'll end up in the streets with our guns blazing and a riot underway.

Mary, I will have to respectfully "agree to disagree". I disagree entirely with your first paragraph. "Pro death" certainly does not describe my position on abortion and I do not use the term "pro choice" because it is a "nice sounding term". I use it because it is, in fact, accurate. "Pro" means "For". Do you seriously believe that pro-choice people are "for death"? That would only be true if a person believed that ALL pregnancies should be aborted or perhaps if ALL unwanted pregnancies should be aborted.

As I said, I do not believe that abortion is the only or even best choice - I simply believe that it is a choice that should be legally included along with: have and keep the baby; have and give the baby up for adoption. I am pro-CHOICE - i.e. not limiting a woman to one single option should she become pregnant which is what pro-life people want.

It is a difference in focus. Pro-life people focus on the unborn child; pro-choice people focus on the woman. I cannot support laws that force a woman to go through a pregnancy she does not want and possibly did not intend.

What's really ironic is supporting views that Sarah Palin allegedly promoted: only teach abstinence and yet limit a woman's choice once the very limited education of abstinence doesn't work out. Crazy!

Some interesting and some pretty thought provoking comments up above and in particular I think the pro life and pro death regardless of your viewpoint pretty much sums up the decision which is being made. If one is honest and truly reflective of what is taking place then if you are for abortion then one is truly about taking a human life for without intervention (abortion) that is what the baby would become. I have never known a woman who years afterwards was happy about the decision and always hear that "everytime I see a 25 year old boy I feel he could have been mine". I for one am a big believer in god and life after death and sure would not want to explain how I made the distinction between fetus and baby.

To "response to andy"...

Your story touched my heart, and I thank you. I admire what your doing and how you expressed yourself in your post.

I DO have an idea, as I was born drug addicted and adopted! I have had a lifetime of struggles and I have made a good life for myself and my family.

I have been part of two very large churches, and what I posted was based upon personal observation. I stick with my opinion and observation as this is frustrating!

I am also concerned that it's the conservatives that complain about money going to social services and the challenged and needy.

On a side note, the CA Governor has proposed to completely cut Medical and healthy families. This would leave many special need kids in a dangerous position.

Being a white Christian family, who has adopted two black special need children, may I suggest you get a "message" out to other like yourself on a grander scale.

Again, thanks for the input and sharing from your heart.

John,

I felt I had to comment here. A lot of "liberals" major complaint with conservatives are based upon the conservatives double standards and hypocrisy.

You want us to look at late term abortion photo's?
Most of us have and no, it's not pretty.

"DO ME A FAVOR" and look at these pictures and get back to me!

Is it any different, because these are not Americans? Are they REALLY
terrorist? Or acceptable "casualties"?

Remember that BUSH was directed by GOD, to invade Iraq!

SARAH PALIN gets all radical on video in the church, waiving her hands, saying praise god, hallelujah, and she says were in Iraq DOING God's WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

_______________________________________________________

Do look at the link that guy posted. ANYONE who supports the troops, thinks of them as hero's, and or believes that we are liberating Iraq, or who supports the war, YOU ARE PRO DEATH!

I guess a human life, or DEATH of A Baby or Child, is different, when it's in Iraq?

So the subject matter IS REALLY "PRO LIFE" for Americans only!

This is just plain Stupidity!

A couple of points,

first I do not believe we should be in either Iraq nor Afganistan and if anything it looks as if we are becoming more engaged in Afganistan than ever before and 7 of our poor soldiers died there yesterday day alone but there is a big issue here. We have a volunteer military and as sad as it is all of those killed in those two countries volunteered knowing the risks of what could happen whereas I do not believe a baby had the opportunity to either volunteer or decline to be killed.

Wow, lots of very angry people around here...

What did Sarah Palin ever do to you? Seriously... did she impact your life at all in a negative way?!?!

She's not the first to get in over her head in the heat of a political campaign. I simply thought that she wasn't ready for the aggressive negative world of political campaigning on a national scale, and she decided that her family should take precedence. Nothing more, nothing less.

The fact that some of you harbor such violent negative feelings towards her speaks more of the media bias and your own gullibility. You've likely never met her, you probably wouldn't have known if she sat down next to you at a soccer game two years ago. And yet, you're spewing vile nasty personal attacks about a woman that you've only seen through the media eyepiece.

"Contrary to most reports, her decision had been in the works for months, accelerating recently as it became clear that controversies and endless ethics investigations were threatening to overshadow her legislative agenda. "Attacks inside Alaska and largely invisible to the national media had paralyzed her administration," someone close to the governor told me. "She was fully aware she would be branded a 'quitter.' She did not want to disappoint her constituents, but she was no longer able to do the job she had been elected to do. Essentially, the taxpayers were paying for Sarah to go to work every day and defend herself."

Hah, you sure get around, don't you?

Anyway, you're right. I haven't met Michael Jackson (and now I never will). I haven't met Sarah Palin (and likely never will).

Michael Jackson has admitted to sleeping with prepubescent boys in his bed AS AN ADULT. He has a documented history of painkiller abuse, and had to pay $20M to the family of a young boy in order to stop him from testifying in court. He dangled his kid off a balcony, narrowing avoiding dropping the kid a few stories.

These are facts.

Sarah Palin was unqualified to run for vice-president, and her daughter had a child out of wedlock.

Not quite the same level of sin, is it?

What a peace of work this woman is! Potential, or rather never a potential vice president!~ She BLEW it for the GOP, and continues to be a JOKE! A BOOK DEAL?? "Soccer Moms GONE WILD"!

Associated Press:

"Palin stunned the political world when she abruptly announced Friday that she would step down July 26. She spent the long holiday weekend fishing with her husband and kids briefly and attended an Independence Day parade. Her first official appearance was at the bill signing. She also gave several interviews while wearing waders from her family's fishing spot before flying to Kotzebue.

She has not said what she will do next, but a book deal is in the works. When asked if she will run for president, Palin responded, "That's certainly not within my immediate plans."

But Palin was quick to criticize President Barack Obama, a possible sign of what's to come three years from now, ripping him over his economic plans.

There has been speculation that she has some legal issue that is not yet known to the public. But her lawyer said she has no legal problems whatsoever, and simply is tired of the hostile political climate, legal bills and other distractions."

Palin was Chief Executive of a State, the largest by land area. She was also Mayor, which is the equivalent of the Chief Executive, of a city, meaning she had executive leadership experience.

Obama didn't.

Clear enough?

And just so I'm clear, I wasn't thrilled with her selection as VP candidate either. I thought it was a cheap grandstanding move, and was deliberately aimed at moms who would supposedly be disillusioned by Obama's snub of Hillary. She was clearly unqualified, but that didn't keep people from voting for Obama.

Her problem was that she was ill-equipped for the rigors of a national election, poorly prepped, and not "presidential" enough. Obama has the camera-savvy and smooth-talking ability that Bill Clinton had, and that was good enough for the masses weary of the lame Bush years.

But that doesn't mean he was qualified for the job....

It is amazing to me that anyone who saw her interviews could believe that she is qualified to be the leader of our country.Does intellectual curiosity and depth of knowledge of issues not matter? So anyone who has a conservative Christian outlook and the "right family values" that is what is important. Not that they actually know anything about all the complex issues. It is quite easy to get up on a pulpit and preach simplistic religious beliefs and values.Because she has a child that is disadvantaged makes her presidential? You betcha! If someone is going to operate on my child I want them to have the training, knowledge and experience. In terms of being ready to be president she could not even get into Med school.

The argument that she was a gov and a mayor holds no water in terms of being ready to govern a country. It is a much more complex and difficult job to be mayor of SF,Oakland or San Jose than to be gov of Alaska which is a very unique and strange place with a very non-diverse population.

I now understand the mentality of the different regions of the country.I see the posts here that offer the same philosophy as the stereotypical West Virginia and small southern rural uneducated population.I did not quite get it until I saw it in action in Pleasanton Ca.There is truly a deeeeeeep divide in this country and it is mostly based on religious beliefs.People like Palin as a person and do not care about her intellect, knowledge or ability to deal with all the complex issues. They like her conservative religious values and that is all that matters.Excuses will be made for all of her shortcomings because she is a true believer in the right wing area of Christianity.More people have been killed in the name of religion throughout history than anything else.Obama inherited the worst financial crisis in the history of the world when you factor in modern day complexities.Throw in N.Korea, the Middle East,Mexico, Russia,China, healthcare and energy amongst others.Palin of course could see Russia from some part of Alaska.Comforting.I really do not hate Palin but I resent anyone in any field trying to get a position of enormous responsibility that does not have the ability to do the job.

I know understand even more after reading all of this that the libs see Sarah Palin as a significant threat otherwise they would just ignore her in public and also on these blogs. Personal attacks are about all that can be done to take shots at her in the place of facts. Interesting that people just do the drive by thing regarding her in terms of making claims but do not state the facts. A fact example is that people cite 15 ethics complaints against her but they fail to mention that all 15 have been dismissed and they have all been made by democratic operatives including one who was Obama's spokesperson during the DNC convention. Another fallacy is that the FBI was investigating her and the fact is they issued a statement that this was not true and she is not under any investigation at all.

What concerns the informed dems is that she has the "it" factor and although it is doubtful she can win the presidency what she can do is inflict a tremendous amount of damage on the messiah for the next 3 years if unincumbered by frivilous litigation and also now that she will not be a public official she is free to sue and reap huge settlements.

For me, liking or disliking Palin had nothing to do with her religious beliefs. As I've said, I don't feel she was qualified to be a vice-presidential candidate. But that's not a reason to hate her...

Obama wasn't (and still isn't) qualified to become president either, but that didn't stop a lot of you from voting for him. Unless you actually live in Alaska, I doubt Sarah Palin has had any discernible, hate-able impact on your lives, where Obama has raised our taxes, inflated our deficit, maligned the US overseas, sucked up to dictators, and generally done a Bush-like job in the White House.

And you hated Bush for it.

I am shocked by the opinions of Sarah Palin on this forum’s thread, based what can only be solely upon the media's portrayal of her. I am highly suspicious that any of you that have posted here can honestly say you have thoroughly researched her positions and can say with certainty that you know her personal motivations and convictions.

When you pick and choose details when formulating a position, or opinions in this case, and you emphasize only a few less than attractive attributes over and over while ignoring the entirety of a person’s accomplishments and official record, no wonder the resultant is people with only perceptions and little factual basis for their opinions.

I can't claim to know Sarah Palin, but her record is one I wish we could claim here in CA. I don't think anyone can disagree with that, given our current fiscal situation under a liberal/progressive lock on our state government, that we’d prefer the record of Alaska right now.

Say what you will about your differences with Sarah Palin’s personal convictions, but you cannot refute the fact that her beliefs simply have not affected public policy in Alaska. There is no evidence that I have read, other than pure speculation and conjecture – which is never a sound position to make an argument, that has proven otherwise, and I can't imagine how it would change if she went on to seek any other office.

The repeated differential and insistent negative examination by the main stream media (MSM) is something I can't remember in recent history happening to any other seeker of political office. When the MSM can largely ignore a presidential candidate’s infidelity to a spouse suffering from a terminal illness, but then can target the child of a post vice-presidential candidate for multiple exhaustive stories, I find it deplorable.

The facts are that the so-called “Left” has sought to financially ruin Governor Palin with erroneous ethics complaints only after she was introduced to the nation – all of which have been found baseless. That is a fact. And in fact, one of the claims she was found exhonerated in was the travel expenses of her children during the campaign. In spite of her exhoneration, she decided to go ahead and pay for the expenses.

During Sarah Palin’s tenure in public office at all levels, she had never been accused for as so much as a parking ticket prior to her introduction to the national political scene. No wonder she has chosen to resign – putting her State above her own self-interest or even a possible ambition – something all political leanings should take notes on. Sarah Palin was at the bottom of a losing ticket and yet the MSM can't seem to shake her loose – a full eight months later. Why? What has she done that is indeed so offensive except buck any perception of a woman who is successful in the eyes of those more liberal in ideology?

It is no wonder the selective-feminist movement came out of the "Left"; it seems to me that they are the ones that need to learn how to treat others.

I am encouraged by the likeness of Sarah Palin and I soon hope that when she is referred to in any conversation, everyone will recognize that she is an example of personal character and professional ethics – no wonder people feel she is so out of touch and have difficulty relating to her.

I'd prefer it, Julie, if you'd cite a news agency with a news source a little more reputable...Palin's daughter's ex fiance hardly qualifies - especially when he has much to gain from detracting from her. Do you often read, believe, and perpetuate such drivel?

The overwhelming evidence is that Palin resigned to pursue her personal goals while not in office. Would you and your liberal friends prefer her to stay and office, write a book and tour at public expense? She has ethics and integrity and you have a problem with that? You might want to speak to the Clintons or any other thousand of ex politicians that have sought book deals, tv/radio hosting, etc. The list is endless. At least she did it in an honorable way putting the people of Alaska before her own ambitions. I don't think even your revered Obama can pass that test.

Not only did your example have no point, you seem interested in joining the mob of jealous speculators.

Liberals can only deal with someone when they abandon all morality and then point fingers at those who don't.

Yeah, that's a group I want to be a part of! I don't think so.

It's sickening to me how far a group of people will go to take someone down, but what's worse is those who justify it and those who join in because of it.

I'm a product of parents that said there is no God, no one truth, no values more important than another. Moral relativity is the best choice. What works for one of us is fine. Rules are silly, but we need lots of laws to govern those who want any impose any on the rest of us regardless of the reliability of social behavior that occurs when governed personally and publically by those standards that worked for society for millenia. But why is that the only way? They musn't know about our new morality. Let's just do whatever works for us and feels right at any given moment. It will all work out.

I think the left IS afraid of her. She accomplished everything they want to but with her morals and not theirs. That is scary to them, but refreshing to real Americans not wannabe Europeans.

I really hope she runs for office within the next 20-30 years. She has at least that much political life left in her. I'd prefer sooner, but we might just need to let the rope out a little longer for the Dems to really hang themselves before bringing her in to do what needs to be done.

I actually don't consider "what's his name who is only famous because he impregnated Bristol Palin" as a reliable source. That's why I pointed out that he has a book deal too.

And I have to put up with sources that are highly right wing all the time on these boards, so I didn't realize that people actually care about the sources. Sorry!

By the way, you'll forgive me if I don't consider it "honorable" that she is quitting the position that the people of her state elected her to do. You speak of morals and ethics. My dad taught me not to be a quitter. It's interesting the "spin" that certain groups (I won't assume and simply say, "conservatives") are putting on the fact that she *quit*.

Interesting how conservatives/republicans attack the media. I actually learned about ADN from a very republican friend who likes Palin. I had emailed this friend an article from CNN during the 2008 election, and my friend said CNN was liberal, was tired of the mainstream media, and why didn't I read respected papers like ADN?

Well, I looked into it and it is well balanced. The reason my friend recommended it is because for a while there were a lot of pro-Palin articles....yet during the election that changed. Suddenly ADN became part of the "awful mainstream media"

What do republicans read that they consider "balanced"? I am truly curious. (I know what my friend considers "real" or "balanced" - anything that only speaks wonders of the GOP)

I agree with you, Julie. I do not like Palin because of what she stands for. I also do not consider it honorable to quit a job midterm, especially the way she did it and why she did it. But the GOP tries to twist everything: Sanford is a great christian? It is okay for Palin's daughter to have a baby even though she is a teen? The list goes on. Now they are saying Palin is great because she quit, yet the New Jersey governor won't have Palin anywhere near him before the election! Oh yeah, and all the media is awful too - I wonder how these right wing folks get their information. Rush? Glen Beck?

Labeling anyone "Pro Death" is offensive and inflammatory. People who use the term "pro-choice" do so because it is the accepted and accurate term for that viewpoint, not because it sounds "less lethal".)))

Julie - having realized we'd gotten off topic I chose not to respond and continue this, but would sincerely like to find a way to continue our discussion/debate on this topic with you. Not to convince you, rather to maybe inform you of some of the pitfalls of both sides. I wonder if there is a way.

The Palin saga has come to a point become almost beyond belief. She is a person of pretty average intelligence but good at reading a speech and talented on camera. She is really pretty much a soccer mom with conservative beliefs that is very ordinary except she is good in front of the camera. She has been thrust into being one of the most famous people in our country and it is crazy if you really think about it.It is almost like a movie that is fun to watch but could never happen in real life. She is so unqualified to be put in such a position that it really is absurd. On the other hand we have a lot of highly educated people like the ones destroying the state of California that I am beginning to understand the Palin attraction. She really knows no more about foriegn policy and economics than the average citizen but the people who support her do not care.Maybe we do need someone ordinary to change things because the idiots in congress cannot agree on anything. They all put their own interest first. Not the country. To the people who hate Obama just remember what he faced upon taking office. The unheard of complexity of the multiple huge problems he had to take on is truly staggering.I wonder what brillant solutions you would come up with.

Urantia - "pretty average intelligence but good at reading a speech and talented on camera" well that just about perfectly describes the current leader of this country. I suppose we can ascribe that description to many of our political movers and shakers, sadly.

Let us all just hope for the best right now and stop dissing each other's side!
