Even If You Can''t Stand "Rush," I Beg You To Watch This Short Clip...

Original post made by Barbara, Downtown, on Jun 9, 2009

I am already anticipating several negative replies from people who vehemently dislike Rush Limbaugh...either because they do not like him personally or don't like his politics, or both.

Even if you do not like him, I am reaching out to you -- both democrats, republicans and independents -- to PLEASE just watch and listen to this short 9 minute clip below. This clip is so moving to anyone who loves this country. His message is so powerful.

This presentation (beginning about 3 minutes into the clip) in my mind ranks among the finest in recent history regarding the greatness of America.

Again, to those who do not like Rush, I encourage you to please hang in an listen to all 9 minutes just listen to the audio if you don't like watching him). However the meat of this (no. 5) segment starts around 3 minutes into it.

If you'd like to comment or criticize, I welcome it. I just ask that you keep your criticism constructive.

Sincere THANK YOU from someone who loves this country.

Barbara,

Why don't we ALL just drink the cool-aide and relax! LOL

Like it or not, there are those of us that have ZERO respect for Rush, or anything he has to say!

Have you ever read his magazine? My god, what a ZERO!

Like him or not, Rush has too many good points to be a "zero". Unfortunately, too many people have their heads in the sand (clogging the ears) and continue to REFUSE to listen to reason. Their minds are made up. That is what Hitler banked on....and won.

I think Rush is great as do 20,000,000 people who listen to him daily. Why do you think the liberal left attacks him? Because he is right, tells the truth, and thus is a threat to those who are destroying our country.

Barbara,

Thank you for posting this.

Obama thinks we still need to improve and that our greatest days lay ahead.

The rest of us know that the Founding Fathers got it right the first time and we are simply just trying to hold on to it.

We are the greatest nation on Earth. We are. I will never apologize for this country.

Rush is so inspiring and so brilliant, it is sad how the left can look at the truth and dismiss it.

Rush Limbaugh is a windbag. He's a news-based entertainer who makes the ultra-right feel good by reinforcing their world view. He's nasty, and in spite of the previous posts is not always 'right.'

That said, he is an icon and I occasionally listen to him as I think it is important to draw information from a wide variety of sources.

I like Rush. I like that he is against drugs and gets busted for them. I like that I know how he stands on every issue, every politician, and every problem. I like that he always has an absolute position on everything. I wish that I was the same way, it would take less time thinking about anything. I also wish I had my own personal Rush so that he could tell me how to think. It sounds nice.

I find the people that object to Rush the most only listen to sound bits - maybe they should listen to his show once or even for a week they may open their eyes to some truths. Too bad people prefer to get their facts from the "View" instead or the main street media!!

Bad assumption - I've listened to the man on many occasions, read one of his books, and and even watched his show in the mid-90s.

Listening to the man does NOT automatically equate to agreeing with him. He is obnoxious, on the wrong side of most things, and has a fetishistic obsession with the word "liberal" (a pejorative for just about anything not in lockstep with his worldview).

Pardon me for not buying into the madness.

here is a cut/paste definition of Rush....

dem⋅a⋅gogue  /ˈdɛməˌgɒg, -ˌgɔg/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [dem-uh-gog, -gawg] Show IPA noun, verb, -gogued, -gogu⋅ing.
–noun 1. a person, esp. an orator or political leader, who gains power and popularity by arousing the emotions, passions, and prejudices of the people.
2. (in ancient times) a leader of the people.

–verb (used with object) 3. to treat or manipulate (a political issue) in the manner of a demagogue; obscure or distort with emotionalism, prejudice, etc.

–verb (used without object) 4. to speak or act like a demagogue.

The Rush's of the world have been around forever.... and so many "smart" people of Pleasanton are sucked in by the emotion, etc.... in this day and age...

The "20 million listeners daily" figure is wrong... the actual estimate, if you google it, is "20 million listeners weekly". I'm guessing that a large percentage of that *estimate* represents the number of folks who have their radios pre-tuned to the ultra-conservative stations and who may or may not be actually listening to their guru?

I wonder how many more have their stations tuned to NPR?

I'm just saying....

I have a more productive idea T.R.

Lets all just spent TEN minutes watching a video by L.Ron Hubbard, Church Of Scientology!

You changed your outlook on Rush in TEN minutes, really?

The Moonies would LOVE to show you a video as well..LOL

Only kidding here, but REALLY?

I have read many volumes of Rush's magazine late at night, while visiting my sister and brother in law out of state, trying to figure out this guy my sister married many years ago. I cringe at the thought that anyone is cold enough, dark enough and hard enough to stomach the stuff this clown writes.

When are you people going to stop listening to people like Rush Limbaugh who only complain and their only goal is to get people excited and whipped into a frenzy so that they can get higher ratings by having more and more extremists listen to them. This goes to BOTH sides!

um, there is some humor and irony here, if you'd only take a deep breath, pause, and catch it... whacko alert included. But if you're not in the mood to chuckle, don't "Rush" to check out Mr./Ms. Ollman's link. As one who is *not* a Limbaugh fan, I checked it out and ... well, the joke gets lost if you have to 'splain it.

Wow! The inability of people to differentiate between principles of Truth and the inaccurate application for the breakdown of those Truths astounds me. If these readers actually believe that one man in 6 months did all these horrendous things we are experiencing ALONE ... well, I feel sorry for you. There’s a thing called HISTORY that helps dispel the “boogie-man of blame”. Go to our beautiful Pleasanton library, pull out a few books on American presidential corruption, or greed fueled economic disasters, or industrial exploitation and you’ll find a much more sober account of historical precedent for blame. America IS the greatest country on earth. Let’s use our basic FREEDOM to read and think clearly and not be a victim of rhetorical manipulation

Limbaugh has a right to an opinion and he may have some valid points but it's the way he delivers his message. Demagogue is a very good description.

Limbaugh is out for himself at the expense of our country as does Gingrich. Extremists on either side of the political spectrum are not healthy for this country, ergo; Jos. McCarthy and Black Panthers...

I appreciate the thoughtful manner in which Geo. Will and Pat Buchanan delivers their messages although I do not necessarily agree with them, as I will not agree with Keith Olbermann or his delivery for that matter.

Lastly, let's keep in mind two things: 1)it's about advertising dollars and, 2) how much they can get you so riled up that you make a donation to a political party.

If you are really objective and few are. leave out Limbaugh, Bush, Clinton, and all of the others and just think about what Obama is doing to this country. We are the laughing stock of the world. Russia and China or now converting US dollars into IMF bonds because of lack of confidence in our government............very scary.

Rush = Self-righteous, drug addicted, right-wing hypocrite

In many languages, “Limbaugh” translates to “one who makes a career off the bigotry of his redneck audience”

Barbara, please save your clip for your Klan...I'm mean Tea Party Meeting

Barbara,
Do not confuse the love and pride of your country with a differing opinion about how to solve the issues of the day for that country. The last administration had 2 terms to accomplish what they did (pluses and minuses). Let's give the current guy a chance and our support. Three plus years from now we get to decide if he has earned around trip around the block.
Regards,
David Cannon

For you Rush aficinados:

Web Link

A few juicey quotes:

"Demagogy is as old as democracy, but not all democracies produce demagogues. The best known of the ancient Greek demagogues was Alcibiades, who sold his fellow Athenians the (bad) idea of conquering Sicily."

"But as the boom years of the industrial age gave way to deflation and depression, demagogues turned against liberalism. On the left and right alike, from socialists to anti-Semites, radical politicians discovered that the best way to mobilize new voters was to blame economic volatility on enemies of the people. In Austria, the anti-Semite Karl Lueger blamed the troubles of the Viennese petty bourgeoisie after the stock market crash of 1873 on the city's supposedly all-powerful Jews. In Russia, radical socialists such as Leon Trotsky fulminated with equal vehemence against czarism and capitalism. In every case, the demagogue pointed an accusatory finger, blaming this or that group for the sufferings of the masses. Success meant power for the demagogue, and persecution for his targets."

Rush is now salivating over blaming Obama for everything he does to fix the absolute mess that Bush, the Republicans in power 1993 through 2006, Reagan, and Alan Greenspan created starting in 1980.

But, who is Rush? Answer: a talk show entertainer! And you folks are his followers!!!!!

It is incredibly REVEALING (but not surprising) that as I read all of the replies to Barbara's post, ALL of the negative responses criticize the 'messenger' (i.e. Rush) and not his message.

This is typical of democrats to target, isolate and demonize and hardly ever to debate substantive issues.

I've been on the fence politically but in viewing these responses along with the mainstream media's obvious biases toward Obama...and very little, if any, investigative journalism regarding Obama's policies, my vote in 2010 is going to be solidly for conservatives.

Thank you to all of those who replied so negatively against Rush for helping me make up my mind.

Can anyone here recommend a good pharmacy in Pleasanton? I'm also looking for a non-ethnic restaurant in town with very large portions. Any ideas?
