Let me get this straight? The Feed is going to POUR out funds to create jobs, but California is sinking? California has for a long time had some of the highest paid and biggest federal tax contributors than any other stae. Now our federal tax dollars are not even going to be available for the Emergency that California is facing? Read my comments, line item below. My input IN CALIFORNIA in CAPS.

These are the targeted projects for accelerated spending, according to the White House:

* Enable 1,129 health centers in 50 states and eight territories to provide expanded service to about 300,000 patients (Department of Health and Human Services).

IN CALIFORIA, we will be eliminating Cal Works, Medical and healthy Families. The result will be aver TWO MILLIOM children without ANY medical coverage. Elder care is targeted as well. I BET hospitals will need to "expand servces"!

* Begin work on 107 national parks (Department of the Interior).

IN CALIFORNIA, we are facing the closure of most ALL national parks, because we have ZERO money to fund them.

* Begin work on rehabilitation and improvement projects at 98 airports and more than 1,500 highway locations throughout the country (Department of Transportation).

IN CALIFORNIA, We dont have the money to travel by air, let alone by car the way things are going. What a priority!

* Fund 135,000 education jobs including teachers, principals and support staff (Department of Education).

IN CALIFORNIA, we have LOST over 36,000 teacher jobs in the LAST WEEK! Pleasanton has LOST 146 teachers and countless support staff.
So by the math, should we expect ALL the teachers to be recalled and even more hired! This makes NO sense, what so ever!!

* Begin improvements at 90 veterans medical centers across 38 states (Department of Veterans Affairs).

WOW- what an idea, improving delapitaed V.A. hospitals.

* Hire or keep on the job about 5,000 law enforcement officers (Department of Justice).

In CALIFORNIA, thousands of firefighters and cops have already LOST their jobs. So again, should we expect a recall?

* Start 200 new waste and water systems in rural America (United States Department of Agriculture).

BRILLIANT! More construction jobs for the illegals!

* Begin or accelerate cleanup work at 20 Superfund sites from the national priority list (Environmental Protection Agency).

INTERESTING!

* Create 125,000 summer youth jobs (Department of Labor).

REALLY cool, 125k jobs for the youth, while teachers with MBA's are out of work. Perhaps the kids can now pay the mortgage?

* Initiate 2,300 construction and rehabilitation projects at 359 military facilities across the nation (Department of Defense).

So Obama is admitting that the first part of the "stimulas" has not worked so he is pouring more "printed money" into the economy. The only job growth is and will be the govt.

I didn't vote for Obama, he did nothing and didn't even vote when it came to the Illinois legislature. I told my friends it was a sad day when he became elected, however I didn't vote for McCrap either. I hated both of them, they were all sorry choices. Now I'm in California and CALWORKS, I was supposed to start my vocational training in July 2009 will probably be cut. I have a job only working 20 hours a week, but usually I'm sent home with less than that. Last year I was working 40+ hours and my old company isn't even hiring, in fact they are laying off. I don't know what to do and I have 3 kids, better learn to speak a 2nd language and move out of this country.

This truly is a sad situation and the real difficult part is knowing that we have at least 3.5 more years of this president by I am hopeful about the congressional races next year in other states based on what is happening in the polls and in europe. The fiscal responsible parties in europe are sweeping to power in every country other than Greece and Gordon Brown is being asked to step down because of doing the same thing Obama is doing here. I really feel sorry about people in this town with school age children as it is going to get far worse I fear unless we do something about the debt and possibly lowering taxes in order to kick start the economy. All four of my grown children went through the Pleasanton school system and I can tell you that the town and the schools are not the same now as they were then. At the end of the day it is truly up to us the voters to change our leadership and vote out everyone who is part of the problem and unfortunately that is most if not all of the elected officials in the state, county, and local levels.

Bobby, what I meant by “just don’t depend on others to carry you” is the notion that people are waiting for someone to hire them or give them more hours to work. Yes, depending on someone else can take the form of government support. I was encouraging her to go out and make something happen -- be entrepreneurial!

And herein lies the problem: when you elect someone whose only "accomplishment" is being a lawyer for an organization that promotes stealing elections, is friends with people that work the system to overload it, and only read in *theory* what government is about you get screwed!

I agree Obama is not good. But the voters did know. I voted for Obama but not because I liked him or agreed with his ideas, but because I truly believe that Palin anywhere near Washington was simply too scary. McCain screwed up - he pretty much ensured Obama's victory by picking the most uneducated, backwards person on earth. I am a woman and would never vote for someone so backwards as Palin (does not believe in abortion, or sex education, or evolution, plus she is very ignorant and can't seem to make a coherent statement).

I only hope the GOP gets its act together, because the way it looks right now, they keep embracing ignorant Palin, and that will only help this administration in future elections.

President Obama is creating new teaching jobs, but its in about 10 states that he believes are WORTH pouring money into.Those states are willing to undergo significant reforms, including eliminating/reforming tenure. I am an educator and I see both sides of this coin. There are many ineffective instructors that should be removed;however, merit pay is frustrating if you live in an urban district or teach a specialized EL class because those district often lack the basic resources needed to achieve a high test score.

Probably the most significant issue here is that unemployment nationally is at 9.2% and raising and in California I just heard on he radio is over 11% and that only includes the ones looking for a job. Obama is just guessing about the numbers of jobs he has created because the the CBO does not even attempt to track that because as they say it is impossible to prove. The 787 billion stimulus is not a job creation bill but rather a political move to shift the ideology of the country from allowing states power to creating an all powerful federal government who can now dicate the terms of their agenda by virtue of a financial contract with whichever state who chooses to use the funds. Beware as we are seeing our constitutional rights being taken away right in front of our eyes by someone who has never had a job other than a community organizer.

You had to love Palin's coherent and well reasoned defense of the TARP program and other bailouts. She explained that fiscal conservatives support the 3/4 Trillion tax payer bailout of the financial services industry, because the industry was too important to fail. It was about keeping spending under control, and lower taxes, and health care. This wasn't government taking over private industry. I especially liked the way she clarified her position in subsequent interviews and debates.

She was an embarrassment to an already embarrassed party (think Bush). Republicans aren't getting anywhere by blaming everything on Obama and saying he is a socialist or a Muslim. It is time to admit that Bush was wrong on the economy. Bush flung the door wide open for big government spending and control. Democrats need some credible opposition.

Let's go back to the subject of the blog and that is Obama's claim of creating 135,000 jobs while at the same time he has eliminated 2,600,000 jobs since becoming President even though he promised in November that is the stimulus package was approved he would save or create 2,500,000 jobs. His words not mine. We elected him as our leader to be President and to correct the things he said he would when running for the office and not to make excuses but to perform. He is starting to be held accountable for his words and as job losses and the financial hardships worsen he must perform afterall we bet on him.

I CANNOT see blaming the President for LOSING jobs - This was in motion since 2007. Job creation takes time. This doed NOT happen overnight. I strongly suspect that "What's is going on" and "Love Palin" are the same person by virtue of the same unfounded comments about Sarah Palin. Uneducated, unexperienced, ignorant, no substance are pretty subjective and opinionated comments. The only thing which can be proven and objective is that as you say she is a "white woman".

Let's discuss facts here related the GM and Chrysler going bankrupt. First let's discuss General Motors or Government Motors from this point forward. GM is going bankrupt and make no mistake about that. GM does not even employ 200,000 people but rather currently about 76,000. Of the plants they currently have they are going to shutdown about 18 plants of which 4 or 5 are major assembly operations and they will also shutdown thousands of dealerships. So make no mistake about it they will be laying off 10's of thousands of workers regardless. At the end of the day they will produce on the following nameplates, GM, Chevrolet, Cadillac, and Buick (within the next 12-18 months they will also divest themselves on Buick in North America and only keep the brand in China). Anyone with talent and can find a job are leaving GM and headed out of that industry and the US government will dictate the type of cars GM will make and that will pretty much finish them off as well as the poor quality you will see from this point forward. So the US taxpayers will invest 50.3 billion in a company worth less than 2 billion and at the end of the day they will go under anyway.

Now let's discuss Chrysler. Were you aware that Chrysler is privately held by a company by the name of Cerebus (sic)? The executive board of Cerebus is made up of former politicans among them is former Vice President Dan Quayle? At the end of the day we will invest about 10 billion US taxpayers dollars in the company so that Fiat can take it over for absolutely no money whatsoever? Fiat will gain the rights to the US dealership network of Chrysler. So basically the 10 billion will go to Fiat or Italy. Chrysler also has one Chairman Bob Nardelli and two Presidents Tom LaSorda (recently retired with big money) and Jim Press. Since Chrysler is privately held they do not have to disclose the salaries of Nardelli, LaSorda, and Press but each makes in the millions per year.

At the end of the day GM and Chrysler will be gone and with them our money.

I do not believe the 135,000 is tied to any concrete plan nor do I believe there actually is a plan. I believe that the states which are solvent and have money will hire as needs dictate and those with no money will lay off.

Yes, Palin supported TARP. That's a big deal for a Republican. When repeatedly asked why, she could never answer the question. Those are facts. The credit crisis and economic crisis was the most important issue of the election and she either wasn't briefed, or just didn't understand it. Biden was only marginally better on that issue in my opinion, but was better. That's my opinion.

Yes, we must allow companies that are run poorly to fail. Its the only right thing to do. Look at the comments by Einstein - at the end of the day we are throwing money away.

We need to make the tough choices in tough times and its when companies can not run themselves properly that something needs to happen. These companies make a product. Its cost $X to make the product. If the company makes less than $X on each product, it can not make up for with more volume.

I read the article and actually agree with him that she is not qualified for different reasons. I do not understand how someone with 5 children and one them special needs can consider being vice president of the US. I also did not like her level of understanding. I believe her to be bright but not polished and terribly inexperienced. That said I also consider Obama to not be qualified for the job of vice president let alone president because he has even less executive experience than her and it is showing in a big way. I think he gets it mostly right, except the part about me being someone called "what's going on". I really think those companies should have been allowed to fail. TARP money was never meant for car companies (I don't think it should have been used for banks either).
