PUSD board meets Wednesday and Friday this week, Tuesday next week

Original post made by Sandy, Mohr Park, on Jun 2, 2009

Special board meetings are scheduled for June 3, at 6 pm, and June 5, at 5 pm. (There's also a meeting next week, June 9, at 5 pm.)

Two items of note on the agenda for Wednesday this week:

6.1 -- Report, discussion, and possible action to approve restoration, or not, of programs eliminated or reduced through prior action by the board

6.2 -- Report, discussion and possible action to approve additional reductions of expenditures for the 2009-2010 school year.

Unfortunately, I cannot attend tomorrow. I should be able to attend Friday. I hope to say many citizens at the meetings, willing to contribute our best.

Who will be able to attend tonight?

I wonder what the list of possible additional reductions to be considered will look like.

Can the school district shorten the school year for next year, or must we wait to see if the governor's proposal is approved in the legislature?

This would be effectively a pay cut for teachers. It would affect students across all grade levels equally, rather than impacting some grades more than others.

(Life has turned upside down when I start to argue in favor of actions like cutting days off the school year. Nevertheless, we must confront the truth head-on...)

Don't miss out on the discussion!
