Backyard Mystery

Original post made by Member, Pleasanton Valley, on May 20, 2009

Hi,

I am trying to find a reasonable explanation for why the beach towels and swim suits I hung up on the clothesline in our backyard last night (I used cloth pins to hold the swimsuits) were on the grass this morning with dirt marks on them. Could it be a cat or a raccoon? We live in the Pleasanton Valley neighborhood.

Thanks.

My guess would be raccoons. They are always 'playing' with something in our back yard and pool. If we leave toys or small colorful items outside overnight (kids stencils were a big hit!), they often play with them and wash them in the pool. They also swim laps in the pool when it is hot.

Gary Bogue, columnist for the Valley Times, has many stories about coons; I think I remember hearing one tale about some juvenile raccoons swinging on a clothesline.
