Power Outage Thursday

Original post made by In the Dark, Mohr Park, on May 8, 2009

Has anyone heard the cause of the Power Outage yesterday afternoon in the Mohr Park/Stoneridge neighborhood?

Thought I heard sirens shortly thereafter.

Power was also out in the Gates area. PG&E told me it affected 5,000 customers, but since crews were not yet on site when I called they had no cause yet. My husband heard a loud boom right before the outage and thought possibly a transforner had blown. I did see PG&E crews on Santa Rita across from Sutter Gate and believe this is where the issue originated. Since the ground grates were pulled up and guys were working underground there have to assume it was a transformer issue. Fixed pretty quick though!!

Mine was out for at least two hours – maybe more. Being a nice day and doing yard work anyway I had no real inconvenience.

Just hate trying to remember how to reset the blasted clocks every little gadget has these days. Coffee Maker, Microwave Oven, Phone, etc.

I do have one of those battery operated “Atomic” clocks in the garage. They come in very handy.

I know from experience that most Utility Companies “Pull out the stops” during outages. I credit mostly the Crews doing the work. Even still, it’s driven by Corporate economics. No service – No revenue.

I will also comment on what a Charmed Life we have.

While we look at this as an outage, there are elsewhere less advantaged places that have Utilities like Water, Phone, Electricity, only periodically through the day or week, if at all. The list is actually much longer.

Politics aside, I am thankful for the Privileges, Conveniences, and countless Benefits this great Country sustains.
