PUSD Retiree Incentives

Original post made by Stephen, Castlewood Heights, on Dec 9, 2008

WOW Did you hear at the board meeting tonight night that one of the reasons the district is in the red was because the retiree incentives were larger than anticipated. Do the top administrators get retirement bonuses for retiring like CEOs did from major companies? Remember many of those companies have went under. Will Dr Casey and the rest of his top administrators get some sort of long term bonus when they retire? Maybe at one time it may have been deserved, but not in these times now. Long term bonuses do not seem right, when our kids are suffering and class size may be growing. The new school board members need to look at the contracts of these top administrators. Did you also hear Dr Casey trying to justify going to a conference. I think someone needs to ask for all the credit card receipts and other travel documents under the public disclosure laws of all administrators and board members who went. Did they stay at top hotels or did they cut costs, did spouses go at district expense?

As was stated by another writer: "To newly elected PUSD school board members Hinske and Arkin; since you both ran on a platform of knowing what the parents need because of your long time residence, and your well indoctrinated volunteerism, I can only hope that you have the ability to address this as a priority issue". I believe this statement sums what this community needs now. Full disclosure of what really has been happening in our schools - how much do all of our top administrators get paid? and what long term benefits will they get? In this tight budget year, we need to look at everything. Parents do not want to be paying long term benefits for someone who is gone. They made good money while they worked for us, why continue to pay them after they leave? They also get a very good retirement from the state, better than many of us in the private sector. New board members we do not want status quo!

Casey well over $200,000 plus mucho benefits package because Principals are over $100,000 plus. People should realize one day that what the school district does best is pat themselves on the back and say how great they are. It's a very political school district. Take a look up the road at San Ramon---better in most categories including state rankings.
