Villa del Sole is a privately owned property that stands on the same land where Phoebe Apperson Hearst had her Hacienda De Verona Estate. Drs. Iraj Zandi and Mitra Ara have worked to restore the interior and exterior of their home for almost 20 years.
Now they welcome animal lovers and supporters to their garden for the Valley Humane Society gala fundraiser event, An Evening at Villa del Sole, from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday. The event features fine wines, buffets and smooth jazz, as well as an exclusive look at the historic Castlewood estate. A raffle will also give attendees a chance to win a private tour of Hearst Castle by its museum director.
The evening goes to support VHS, which advocates responsible pet ownership as well as eliminating unnecessary euthanasia. The organization runs several programs throughout the community to educate and connect people with animals.

Phoebe’s Hacienda’s name was La Hacienda del Pozo de Verona. It was named after the wellhead/fountain (pozo) brought from Verona, Italy.
