To start off, the strings that played during this lunch were awsome. As a mucisian, I was very impressed on how they sounded. Violin, and all strings for that matter are more difficult to learn and master. They sounded great, Good job.
My brother was one of the finalist, taking 4th place for the seniors. As I sat there reading and listening to what these kids had to say, I was very impressed. The topics are those which all of us could occassionally use a reminder of these outstanding personality traits that we should all consider and use frequently. I've come to realize all of the young adults up there, have a better understanding of people and situations, that most adults aren't even attempting to use themselves these days. In some cases myself as well.
I think we could all take a page out of these 20 fantastic people. I don't say kids at this point, simply cause the topics, and examples used to articulate their point, were very thought over and adult in there explanations. I am very happy that Foothill is doing this for it's 4th consecutive year. It acknowledges those who think outside their own high school drama filled lives, and into the broader picture, of how people are, have to live, and the scenarios that can be learned only through life experience. Sociology is a class students now have to take in college, but what is sociology, the study of life, of people, their actions, and their integration into their environment. These are some of the only kids I've seen at this age that obsorb life, not just living it. Showing compassion, honesty, repect, self discipline, integrity, and respect. The life lessons, which we should all user and practice. But to understand and appreciate that life for some isn't as easy as others. As in a privledged society like Pleasanton, you don't see as much as one would like.
One more time congratulations to the 20 students who were awarded today, you guys are great. One more ovation for the string groups which performed. Great Job. Great job to everyone, I know our students work hard and could use a congrats here and there.
