I agree with you!!! I live around the corner from both of these schools and always see large SUVS blocking sidewalks, entryways etc. And majority of the time it's parents' on their cell phones! I was driving down Valley recently and a parent flew out of the parking lot while talking on her cell phone. I'm waiting to get rear-ended by these people who talk on their phones. When does the new law begin??? An article about driving and cell phones, especially around school/children zones, should be done in the weekly.

I believe the new cell phone law takes effect July 1.

This past summer I WAS rear-ended on Santa Rita by a mom in a SUV on her cell phone, with her kids in the car. I was stopped on Santa Rita at a red arrow. All of a sudden I had the sensation of a train barrelling into the back of my car. My head flew forward and then slammed back into the seat so hard I had a concussion.
She didn't notice the red arrow. What with the kids and the phone call and all, who could blame her?
Thank God my kids weren't in the back of my car, which was totalled. She would have killed them. An SUV does much greater damage to a car or pedestrian than a van or sedan. She made a deliberate choice to drive a truck and talk on the phone at the same time. She would have killed my kids if they had been with me.

Check out Foothill High about 2:30 pm. They block the crosswalk so you have to walk out on Foothill or go between the bumpers. I called the Foothill school cop and he told me that is not his job to police the exits from the school parking lots or pick up areas. He is a cop, what is his job. He said he would call the person in charge and let them know about this. Two weeks later I called the Police department and talked with the person that handled that area and he said he would take care of it. He said that the school cop never called him. That was last year. Nothing ever happen. Still the same, as are the speeders doing 40+ mph by the school. Where are all the cops?

Go past some Pleasanton schools 20 mins. before the kids go home and you're sure to encounter traffic problems. A grammer school near where I live has a left turn lane into the parking lot. Many times a parent will park across the on-coming traffic lane attempting to enter the parking lot even though it's quite evident the lot is full, since the vehicle in front of them has its bumper blocking the sidewalk. They just sit there with the "Oh, am I blocking the street??? Sorry.". I go out of my way to avoid schools from 2 to 3:30pm. Just elevates the 'ol blood pressure...

I agree with Sophia wholeheartedly! Cars not only block the sidewalk, so kids can't walk to Valley without doing a slalom course, but they go in the exit of the parking lot in order to park their cars. I've actually gone in the exit a couple of times in order to PARK and wait for my child...not wait in the street or on the sidewalks. Also, that same parking lot is a mess in the morning with the parents of the pre-school kids parking along the side and taking their kids into school. Please park in a space and walk your child in.
