PUSD approves accountability plan

LCAP includes goals, actions to address state priorities

The Pleasanton school board unanimously approved the district's Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) at its meeting last week.

The LCAP is a required document under the state's Local Control Funding Formula model that describes how the district plans to meet the annual goals for the students, including actions and services that address state and local priorities, according to the California Department of Education.

The eight priorities include student achievement, student engagement, other student outcomes, school climate, parental involvement, implementation of Common Core State Standards, course access and basic services.

In one of its proposed action steps, the Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD) states that students will have the opportunity to explore greater opportunities for their future through technology and access to library resources.

In addition, the LCAP aims to ensure that the district budget is aligned with the eight priorities for supplemental grants in order to support targeted student groups, which include English learners, reclassified fluent English proficient students, socio-economically disadvantaged students and foster youth.

The budget for supplemental funding to support the targeted groups is $570,000, according to staff.

In another example, the LCAP states the "increased outreach to foster youth will allow students to be better supported within our District and allow these students to be better prepared for college and career."

According to the LCAP, some of the services that are set to be offered to foster youth include additional child welfare and attendance specialists, a college boot camp academy, and before and after school and evening tutoring.

PUSD's other LCAP major goals include:

* All students, regardless, of race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, or gender will be proficient/advanced and college/career ready upon graduation.

* Optimizing student learning by utilizing innovative technologies.

* Every student will feel safe, respected and enjoy positive connections.

* All teachers and classified instructional staff will have opportunities to receive training and support in order to deliver high-quality instruction and progress toward full implementation of Common Core.

* Parents/guardians will be able to support the learning of their children in the new standards and the 21st century classroom.

The LCAP preparation was a seven-month process that included consultations with school officials, employees and parents, reviews by the Parent Advisory Board and input from the public.

According to the district, the LCAP is a living document and changes will occur based upon additional input provided.
