Police seek suspect in two strong-arm robberies

Similar descriptions in both cases, six days apart

by Glenn Wohltmann

Pleasanton police are looking for a man suspected of two local store robberies in less than a week.

The latest incident took place around noon Dec. 23 at the UPS Store on Pimlico Drive. A white man approached a sales clerk and handed her a note demanding money. She complied, the man grabbed the money and was last seen fleeing out the front door onto Pimlico Drive, then heading eastbound toward Brockton Drive. No vehicle was seen.

Police called that holdup "consistent" with one that occurred at Behind the Door Beauty Supply on Hopyard Avenue on Dec. 17.

There, the suspect also produced a demand note to the employee and fled with cash from the register, and was last seen running out of the store and into a parking lot.

In that case, the suspect had also been seen wandering in the area for about 10 minutes before entering the store.

Both have similar descriptions: a white male, somewhere around 40 years old, 6 feet tall and with a muscular build.

The suspect in the Dec. 23 holdup was described as weighing about 250 pounds, and wearing what appeared to be an Oakland Raiders beanie cap, blue jeans and a black jacket that was possibly leather. The suspect also used black gloves, wore sunglasses and appeared to have a reddish-blonde beard.

The suspect in the Dec. 17 robbery wore a black- and white-striped knit beanie, possibly with an Oakland Raiders emblem, and light-colored, faded blue jeans. He was clean shaven and wore a black leather-like jacket that was zipped up to his neck.

As in the later case, the suspect wore dark black sunglasses, a black leather jacket and black gloves.

No weapon was displayed in either case and neither clerk was hurt. Police are not releasing the amount taken in either holdup.

Anyone with information about either robbery is asked to call the Pleasanton Police Department at 931-5100.
