Computer-loving thief hits lockers at gym

Four locked lockers hit, credit cards stolen

Thousands of dollars worth of computer equipment and other items were charged on credit cards stolen from locked lockers at 24 Hour Fitness, according to police reports. In each case, items were left behind and the locks were relocked.

The first of four reports from the gym in the 4700 block of Willow Road came at about 8:42 p.m. Oct. 30.

Three credit cards were stolen from a locked locker at the 24 Hour Fitness, although the victim's wallet and iPhone were left.

Before the cards could be canceled, $2,800 was charged at the Apple Store, a different card was used to charge an additional $2,800 and the third card was used to charge $2,000 at the store; in addition, $1,400 was charged at Macy's. All the charges took place at Stoneridge Shopping Center.

The next day, at about 11:36 a.m., police again received a call about a locked locker theft at the gym. A wallet and $47 cash were left behind, but two credit cards were stolen, and again a card was used at the Apple Store to buy a $2,780 laptop.

In the third incident, reported at about 10:40 a.m. Nov. 1, four cards were stolen, again from a locked locker at 24 Hour Fitness. In that case, the cards were used in Walnut Creek, with two charges for $2,823 and $2,892 made at the Apple Store there, along with a $629 charge at Neiman Marcus, a $300 charge at Whole Foods and a charge for $203 at Sephora. The victim's wallet was not taken.

The fourth was later the same day and reported at about 3:34 p.m. A single credit card was stolen and used at the Stoneridge Shopping Center Apple Store with a charge of $1,418. Again, the victim's wallet was left behind.
