Robert V. Juniper

Robert V. Juniper known as "Bob" died June 14, 2016 in Sacramento CA at the age of 93. Bob was born Oct. 20, 1922 in Nelsonville OH. As a youngster he helped in his grandparent's grocery store, the Juniper Grocery, in Nelsonville until it closed during the Great Depression in the 1930's. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, at the age of 19, Bob enlisted in the US Navy. He was sent by the Navy to the University of Kentucky for six months to train to become a flight instrumentation instructor and weather data collector and was stationed in Pensacola FL for the duration of WWII. After the war he moved from Philadelphia PA with his wife Carolyn and toddler daughter Sandra to Pleasanton CA. Bob's two sons, Robert and Steven, were born in Livermore. Bob was in the Naval Reserves for 10 years and was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6298, serving as Commander several times. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Pleasanton Fire Department during the 1950's and early 1960's. He was also an Alameda County reserve deputy. And for many years he was a member of a bowling league. Bob was quite good at drawing cartoons, even winning 1st place in the "Ultimate T-shirt Design" contest in 2006. For most of his working life Bob was a member of the Retail Clerks Union working for Hagstrom's and Safeway. In retirement, he and wife Carolyn (d. 2008) volunteered at the Pleasanton Senior Center. He lived a good, long life and is missed by sons, Robert D. Juniper (Anna) and Steven P. Juniper, daughter Sandra J. Booth (Steven), grandchildren Caetlynn J. Booth (Tyson Washburn) and Alan A. Booth (Emily) and two great grandchildren Ainsley Booth and Ivan Booth.
