More than 200 dogs will strut down Main Street for the 19th annual Pooch parade during the Pleasanton Downtown Association’s 1st Wednesday Street Party tonight.
The parade route begins on the corner of Neal and Main Streets at 7 p.m. All pooches should gather at Lions Wayside Park in downtown Pleasanton beginning at 5:30 p.m. to enter the parade and be judged in seven different categories including most creative costume and the best trick dog.
Live music will fill the air as two bands play during the event. Steel Rose will play country hits in the Entertainment Garden from 6-9 p.m., sponsored by ClubSport Pleasanton, with live music from Garage Band Academy on the south end of Main Street.
Also in the Entertainment Garden, adults 21 years of age and older can enjoy the best varietals by the glass poured by Ehrenberg Cellars, Crooked Vine and Stony Ridge. Handles on Main will be pouring its craft beer.
Those going to the street fair are invited to bring school supply donations for a back to school “stuff the bus” drive. The Pleasanton school district will be parking a school bus in the 700 block of Main Street to collect donations of school supplies such as backpacks, colored pencils, crayons, pens (blue, black or red), spiral notebooks, glue sticks, binders, binder paper, and pencils (#2 or mechanical).
The school supply drive is being hosted by The Hanger, a donation center located on the Village High School campus that supports Pleasanton families in need.
In the Kid Zone on St. Mary Street, children can enjoy a trackless train, face painting, balloon twisting, a pony and a video game truck. The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s “Fun With Science” team will also be doing science demonstrations. Princesses and other favorite characters from Storybook Smiles will visit with children and pose for pictures.
As always, 1st Wednesday will offer plenty of food, including Cabana Dave’s, Out of the Cave, Street Dogs and Chick n Chill, and sweet treats from Primrose Bakery and Noland’s Cake Shop. All downtown restaurants will be open during the event.
