Local residents are encouraged to get back to their roots Saturday during the city’s first Pleasanton Roots Festival at Alviso Adobe Community Park.

The festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature activity stations and presentations about the park’s historical time periods, the Ohlone and Californio.

The event kicks off with the “Native Four Directions Blessing” before co-sponsor Primitive Ways leads guests through the Ohlone time period with demonstrations such as cordage, acorn soup making, fire making, flint knapping, Native Ohlone games and atlatl throwing.

Other activities will include Ohlone jewelry making, adobe brick making, candle making, and horse and cow roping. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
