Congregation Beth Emek will host a Stanford University professor describing her experience growing up in Germany in the 1970s in a presentation Wednesday evening in observance of Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Charlotte Fonrobert, director of the Taube Center for Jewish Studies at Stanford, will also talk about learning about the Holocaust without ever having met a Jew and outline her own path to Judaism during her presentation, “Growing Up in the Shadow of Death: A German Post-Holocaust Journey Toward Jewish Life.”

The free event begins at 7:30 p.m. at the synagogue at 3400 Nevada Court and includes the congregation’s Yom Hashoah service remembering those who died during the Holocaust. The service includes poetry and music, memorial prayers and the lighting of candles by Holocaust survivors and children of survivors.
