The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District has appointed Krista Johns as its Vice Chancellor of Educational Services and Student Success.

The district includes Las Positas College and Chabot College in Hayward.

Johns is currently interim President of Berkeley City College and will assume her new role May 1.

In her new position, she will provide leadership and management to all district instructional programs and student support services, including academic planning and development, new degree and certificate programs, grant development, educational and strategic planning.

Other responsibilities will include research, accreditation, community and contract education programs, international programs, enrollment management, workforce and economic development, and educational technology.

“Krista has a broad background in education with a special focus on curriculum management and business that will benefit both of our colleges,” said district chancellor Jannett Jackson.

“Her knowledge and understanding of the workforce needs of this region is an added resource that will serve us well,” Jackson added.

Johns brings more than 25 years of experience in higher education policy, research, business and law to her new position. Prior to joining the California community college system, she worked at the University of Mississippi and the University of Nevada, Reno.

Johns was also the Dean of English and Business at Diablo Valley College, and taught as an adjunct business instructor at Las Positas College. She also served as Vice President for Policy and Research for the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Johns has a juris doctorate degree from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, and a bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin, Parkside. She is also a fellow of the Community College Leadership Development Institute at Claremont Graduate University and has published articles and monographs on learning, change management, and various legal topics.
