Foothill girls defeat Carondelet 95-91 in swimming, diving

The Foothill varsity girls’ swimming and diving team scored a big win last Tuesday, defeating Carondelet Catholic High School in Concord 95-91.

This time it was the diving part of the team that led the Falcons to the win as the team was down four points through the swim portion, but outscored the Cougars 12-4 in diving to get the win.

Emily Balicanta placed first by over 35 points to pace the divers.

The first event set the tone for the rest of the meet with the 200 medley relay team of Kennedy Truex, Ryane Skinner, Hailey Morse and Paige Heacox out-touching Carondelet for first by 0.02 seconds.

Also placing first during the day were Maddie David (200 and 500 free), Skinner (200 IM, 100 breast), and Truex (100 back).

On the boys’ side of the meet, the Falcons took apart De La Salle Catholic High in Concord 115.5-67.5.

First place finishes were turned in by the 200 medley relay team (Jonah Cooper, Jonathan Mui, Joe Schafer and Aaron Li), Schafer (200 IM), Aaron Li (50 and 100 free), Cooper (100 fly and 100 back), Calvin David (500 free), Mui (100 breast) and the 200 free relay team (Schafer, Jonah Ong, Calvin Chui and David). Diver Rob Harries placed first by over 30 points.

The JV teams dropped both their matches but got some good swims and first place finishes from the 200 medley relay of Alyson Isaacs, Haley Isaacs, Audrey Goodman and Emiko Tsutumi; Catherine Ren (100 IM), Hailey Benner (Diving) and Haley Isaacs (100 breast).

SOCCER

On Wednesday, the Foothill’s soccer program held its end-of-the-year awards banquet to recognize players for the 2015/16 season. League awards were presented to those recognized by opposing coaches for their contributions, as well as team awards determined by players and coaches.

Earning first team, all-East Bay Athletic League honors was Julia Densmore. Tami Kwong was a second-team selection, with Sarah Mirr and Taylor Noval being selected to the Honorable Mention team.

Mirr and Noval also were honored Scholar Athletes, along with Bryanna Schreiber, Kira Broach, Jazmyn Green, Catherine Cho and Kathryn Lee.

Team awards went to Kwong as the MVP, Densmore as the Inspiration winner and to Mirr for being the Most Improved player.

Player of the Month awards went to Densmore (December), Ali Jackson (January) and McKenna Moura (February).

SPRING SPORTS TIME!

Next week we will feature our spring sports preview on these very pages so I want to make sure teams are lining up their parent volunteers to send in results and photos.

At the end of each week, send me a summary of how the team fared over the week. It does not have to be much – just the basics – as I will put it all together so we can recognize as many of the hard-working prep athletes throughout Pleasanton.

Make sure to include pictures if at all possible. Just remember to provide a description of the picture with identification of the players, as well as credit to who took the picture.
