The Foothill High girls’ basketball team pulled into a tie for second in the East Bay Athletic League with a pair of wins last week.
In their first game of the week on Jan. 26, the Falcons jumped out early on rival Amador Valley, taking a 15-7 lead and never looked back, posting a 46-34 win.
Leading the way in the win were Caroline McMorrow, Sophia Brown, Audrey Goodman and Madison Baxter, all scoring double figures.
Three days later, the Foothill girls cruised to a 56-35 win over Livermore. This time, the Falcons used a 23-6, third quarter margin to blow open a close game.
Brown and McMorrow led the way scoring 14 and 13 points respectively, but it was a game where the Falcons got great performances from the entire team.
The Foothill boys’ team also won a pair of games last week. Starting off the week, Foothill topped Amador 54-35 in a game where the Foothill defense was the key to the contest.
The Falcons led 30-11 at the half. Sam Novitske had 11 in the first half, with Josh Llanos scoring four for the Dons.
Amador came out strong in the third quarter and cut the lead to nine, but the Falcons rallied for the last nine points in the quarter – three-pointers from Novitske and Michael Climent keyed the run – and basically iced the game.
Novitske finished the game with 17 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead Foothill. Garrett Wrenn added nine and Seth Cobb seven points for the Falcons. Amador got solid play from Mitch Benson, Peter Ernst and Tommy Kramer, but the halftime deficit was too much to overcome.
In their second game of the week, the Falcons took out Livermore on the road by a 64-55 final. Cobb had 22 points and Wrenn added 15 as the two seniors led the scoring. Novitske, only a sophomore, but in his second year of varsity play, finished with 10 to finish out his big week.

The Foothill girls’ team suffered a tough go of things last week,
dropping a pair of games.
In the first game of the week, the Falcons faced the always tough Monte Vista Mustangs. The Falcons turned in a strong game, but dropped a tough 1-0 final.
The Mustangs came out of the gate very strong pressing the Falcons all over the field and finally scoring an early goal against the Falcons in the 9th minute of the match.
From the mid-point of the first half forward the Falcons were able to slow down the Mustangs attack and battle toe-to-toe for the remaining portion of the first half.
The second half went scoreless for both squads as the Falcons continued to show a strong work rate by holding down the Mustangs for the most part. However the Falcons attack continued to struggle maintaining possession and creating scoring chances.
Two days later, the Falcons suffered their biggest loss of the season, falling 4-0 to California.
The game started poorly for Foothill as the Falcons gave up all four goals in the first half, digging a hole they could not climb out of in the second half.
