San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford, a 2005 graduate of Foothill High School, received his first Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards this week, honoring him for his prowess on defense and at the plate last season.

The Gold Glove recognized Crawford as the top defensive shortstop in the National League for 2015.

The group of Gold Glove winners were announced Tuesday.

At his position, hCrawford beat out fellow finalists Andrelton Simmons of the Atlanta Braves and Adeiny Hechavarria of the Miami Marlins.

The Silver Slugger recognized Crawford as the NL’s top offensive shortstop last season. The winners were revealed Thursday. Crawford joined teammates Buster Posey, catcher, and Madison Bumgarner, pitcher, in receiving awards for the Giants.

Both awards were voted on by Major League Baseball coaches and managers.

The 28-year-old Pleasanton native has been the Giants’ everyday shortstop since 2012.
