The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department will host a memorial event honoring the vistims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks starting at 10 a.m. at fire department headquarters, 3560 Nevada St.
The event will include police, fire, city and civic representatives, veterans and families paying tribute to those lost on Sept. 11. The event is open to the public.
Organizations and municipalities across the Tri-Valley will similar events today to remember the the 14th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.
Las Positas College in Livermore will host a remembrance ceremony at 1 p.m. at the Mertes Center of Performing Arts main stage, 3033 Collier Canyon Road.
Survivor Bert Upson will share his experience of being on the 78th floor of one of the Twin Towers on Sept. 11, 2001. He is the author of “On a Clear Day — An Eyewitness Account,” which details his experience.
The event is free, but parking on the campus costs $2.
In Contra Costa County, the Exchange Club of San Ramon Valley and local veteran’s organization will hold a Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony.
The ceremony will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:26 p.m. this evening at All Wars Memorial at Oak Hill Park, 3005 Stone Valley Road in Danville. Upson will also share his experience at this event.
Karen Stepper, Danville vice mayor and a former president of the Exchange Club of San Ramon Valley, will emcee the event. Other speakers will include Richard Price, president of the Exchange Club, Danville Mayor Mike Doyle, San Ramon Mayor Bill Clarkson and Contra Costa County Supervisor Candace Andersen.
The ceremony is scheduled to end in time for residents to be able to attend an honorary acknowledgement of veterans at the Monte Vista High during the 7 p.m. Monte Vista vs. Pittsburg football game.
Veterans will be introduced and honored, and they get into the game free.
