Members of Amador Valley High School’s DECA club excelled at California DECA’S Annual Northern California Career Development Conference (CDC) in San Ramon, advancing to the state competition to be held Feb. 28 to March 1 in Santa Clara.

The conference, held Jan. 16-18, provided an opportunity for over 1,100 future business and marketing leaders to compete in the fields of marketing, hospitality and tourism, finance, and management.

Amador Valley brought home the most awards out of all the schools attending.

The team had 80 members place “Top 8” overall in their categories. Of those “Top 8” finishers, 27 DECA members took first place overall.

Winners and finalists were determined through the combination of written knowledge and business presentations.

“I was so proud of our very impressive showing at the NORCAL conference with 111 DECA members,” said Cathy Rigl, Amador DECA advisor. “We have some extremely smart and strategic competitors.”

Amador DECA is now preparing for the State Career Development Conference, where students will have the chance to qualify for the International Career Development Conference held in Orlando, Fla.

Foothill High School DECA also advanced to the State conference — bringing home a total of 125 awards.

“Our students in DECA are certainly prepared for college and career,” said Pleasanton schools superintendent Parvin Ahmadi. “They continue to excel and we are extremely proud of them.”
