Thirty knitter spots have been booked just three days after the Livermore Commission for the Arts and Livermore Downtown announced their “Tree Sweater Forest” in the city’s downtown.
The event, open to all Tri-Valley knitters and crocheters, will benefit the Valley Humane Society in Pleasanton.

The trees are located on First Street, between Maple and South L streets, and will be adorned with culturally rich fiber art representing the community and its spirit.
Downtown businesses will sponsor the trees and community members are providing fiber creations that they have knitted or crocheted for the selected trees. Installation will occur on Sept. 27 and remain in place until Nov. 22.
However, registration, which is required, closes July 25. Projects are due Sept. 10. At the end of the project all tree sweaters, along with proceeds from the event, will be donated to the Valley Humane Society. The tree sweaters will be used as comfort pieces/bedding for shelter pets.
Local sponsor Jo-Ann Fabrics and Craft Stores has donated yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks, and meeting space in their Livermore store at 4650 Arroyo Vista at First Street and Las Positas Boulevard for program participants.
