The Pleasanton Weekly launched an updated version of its website Oct. 11.

Readers will experience changes designed to make the site more readable and its content more accessible.

The re-launch introduces new section pages for news, arts and entertainment and our bloggers. Real estate continues to have its own page.

The site has an improved presentation of the Town Square reader forum, which is intended to encourage greater community discussion on important local issues.

A new community calendar format makes event information easier to access.

“We’ve sought to organize the presentation of vast amounts of content in a way that is clean and simple,” said Gina Channell-Allen, publisher of the Pleasanton Weekly, which operates Pleasanton Weekly.com.

“Like anything different, it will take time to get familiar with the new layout,” Channell-Allen said. Additional tweaks and improvements will be made in the weeks ahead.

In addition to the new design, the website features a number of new blogs by locals who will discuss local politics, parenthood and other topics. More blogs will be added in the future.

  1. Fully anticipating a lot of comments about our new website, I would like to start the conversation with an apology. There are lots of changes and improvements that we are still working on and that you’ll see implemented in the future, but we just couldn’t do them all at once. Like many such endeavors, this is a work in progress that will evolve in the days and weeks ahead, hopefully reflecting your feedback. We launched an earlier version of the site in Mountain View in late August through our sister paper, the Mountain View Voice, and received many helpful suggestions from online posts, emails and focus groups that have been implemented in this version.

    Because of the immense amount of data (all of our content since the site launched) that needed to be preserved and kept accessible, this has been a complex project. It’s been a bit like renovating a large house, where we encountered various structural problems or challenges that had to be designed around. Compromises abound in this type of project and perfection is well out of reach. With a small staff, our resources are limited, but a lot of thinking went into the improvements in how our content is organized and presented and we hope that they will help you and others get more out of our site and enable more engagement of more community members.

    We consider this a dynamic process that involves you, our readers. As we hear ideas for improvement in the days and weeks ahead, we’ll be making further changes.

    So as you share your feedback, please be as specific as possible with what you don’t like and how you think it can be improved. We’ll do our best to answer your questions and to respond to your suggestions.

  8. Oh, well, I’ve been outvoted. I actually liked the look of the old website. More “homey” and befitting the feel of Pleasanton (or at least the feel of old Pleasanton).

  12. I must say it looks nice…..deeply concerened that all your efforts to employ a “Cholo” filter have failed, though. Oh, I’m just kidding. We need the “Cholo”…

  13. Is there a way to provide more in-depth coverage of high school sports beyond the limited, and periodic, football, baseball, basketball coverage?
