California’s unemployment rate didn’t budge in the past month, while jobless numbers in the Bay Area remained at or below the state’s rate, according to a report released Friday by the state’s Employment Development Department.

The state’s unemployment rate in February was 10.9 percent, the same rate as in January, according to the report. That number was down from 12.0 percent a year ago.

San Francisco’s jobless rate went down slightly from January to February, decreasing from 8.1 percent to 8.0 percent.

Marin County had the lowest rate in the Bay Area at 6.6 percent, while Solano County had the highest rate in the region, matching the state’s

rate at 10.9 percent.

The national unemployment rate also was unchanged in February, staying at 8.3 percent.

The state’s unemployment rate is derived from a federal survey of 5,500 households around California.

  1. Surely this article is wrong – because the national news keep telling me the employment outlook is getting better under President Obama’s leadership? Hopefully things will just keep getting better if I just vote how the media tells me to.

  2. The national news is owned by the unions. They hire college educated journalists who think they know oh so much and then they splatter their lies from coast to coast.

  3. Just wait a week or so and revised numbers (showing higher unemployment) will be released by the administration late on a Friday afternoon, when they hope no one is paying attention.

  4. When Obama came into office the unemployment rate was 3.1%. It has risen steadily every month since he’s been in office. Every Friday, on a late afternoon, the guverment releases doquements that show the rate is going up. By the time Obama leaves office in november, it will probably be higher then 14%.

  5. Wrong’s web link shows the unemployment rate has dropped rather steadily since Obama entered office. I don’t believe that. What a bunch of hooey. Nope on Hope for 2012.

  6. To all….the truth, if you so wish to hear it…is that unemployment stats, as you see them, are for those (currently) ACTIVELY looking for work. These stats have NOTHING to do with those people who have quit looking for work. When you see those stats, they run between 15 – 16% unemployment. ADD to that those people who have closed their doors because their small business have been depleted by government regulations and big box companies, the numbers jump even higher. Remember, self-employed people, even though they pay large sums of taxes, do not, are not, able to collect any government subsidies once their doors close. Hence, they are not on anyone’s radar. So, all you who wish to listen to the moronic (left wing) media ought to wake up and seek out truth…but through other avenues. Just remember who is currently in office.

  7. Yep, those is the stats that was used. There was folks who wasn’t counted under Bush and Bush and Reagan and Clinton. But under this black buck we’ve got us in office, it is really the worst. I’m a just going to wait for Friday afternoon to come so I can see the guverment and the left wing media report on its lies, lies and lies.
