Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday for Michel David, 22, and Daniel Shoemake, 21, who both died last Friday in San Diego. Both were students at San Diego State University.

Ms. David graduated from Amador Valley High School in 2006, and Mr. Shoemake, who played football at the school, graduated in 2007.

Services will be held in the Catholic Community of Pleasanton parishes where both were members. Although the exact time of the services is uncertain at this time, Mr. Shoemake’s will be at St. Augustine Catholic Church and Ms. David’s at St. Elizabeth Seton’s on Stoneridge Drive.

According to San Diego police, Ms. David was found dead from gunshot wounds shortly before 10 a.m. Friday, and officers found Mr. Shoemake dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound nearby. Officers had responded to a report of gunshots fired in the area of 55th Street and El Cajon Boulevard, located south of the San Diego State University campus. A note also was found in Mr. Shoemake’s home in San Diego, but police are not revealing its contents.

Friends said the two had been dating for three years, but that the couple had recently broken up.

Ms. David’s Facebook profile says she also worked as a waitress at a Chula Vista Cheesecake Factory restaurant near San Diego. In Mr. Shoemake’s profile, he identified himself as an SDSU student, class of 2011. He was also in the school’s R.O.T.C. program.

The deaths are being investigated by SDPD’s Homicide Division.

  1. I can’t stop thinking of these families. What a heartbreak from which they will never recover. I knew these kids and cannot fathom the twist of their fates. So sad…
