Foothill High School’s JV competition cheer squad took 2nd place in the Intermediate JV Show Cheer division at the first USA Regional competition held at Washington High School in Fremont.

Cheerleaders presented their 2010‐11 routine, performing intricate stunts and tumbling to the delight of their fans and audience. The school’s varsity team was unable to compete due to injuries.

The JV cheer team is coached by Kim DeJoy and Karen Maurice, along with Cheryl Holy and Foothill High head coach Megan Moore.

The squad includes Amanda Arnold, Haley Bowers, Caressa Duarte, Michelle French, Diane

Hadley, Camille Hamlin, Hayley Jefferies, ‘Alakoka Kailahi, Emily Palange, Natalie Pearce, Taylor

Sanchez, Summer Shelton, Natalie Wright and Haley Zavattero.

In the USA Spirit competitions, cheer squads compete in categories by types from all-star to youth football, middle school and junior varsity and varsity at the high school level. Different skill levels also compete, ranging from novice to intermediate and to advanced.

The Foothill JV team competed in the more difficult Intermediate skill level category.

  1. Foothill High School’s JV cheer competition placed 2nd in the Intermediate Division, Amador JV cheer competition placed 1st in the Novice Division. Congratulations to both squads.

  2. How very petty. Perhaps next time, AVHS could send PW information about their standings instead of trying to play this shameful game of one upmanship. It’s clear none of these teams competed against the other so the statements are nonsensical… like comparing apples and oranges.
