A light drizzle stopped early Saturday morning just in time for the 36th annual Foothill Band Review to get under way with a parade on Pleasanton’s Main Street.
Hundreds watched along the route from the Pleasanton Hotel to Angela Street, many of them parents of students from 65 Northern California schools that participated in the parade or were at competition concerts being held at the same time at Amador Valley High School.
Light rain was spotty during the afternoon but the field show went on as scheduled in the late afternoon on the Foothill High School football field.
“It’s a really cool event,” said Foothill High School band director Josh Butterfield, who participated as a musician himself in the 1990s when he was a student at Foothill.
“We’re the host band so we’re not competing,” he explained, “but as a band we travel around almost every Saturday to compete in field and jazz competitions at other high schools.”
Pleasanton Unified School District’s new Superintendent Parvin Ahmadi served as the parade’s grand marshal, leaving the parade at the reviewing stand near the Museum On Main, where she joined Mayor Jennifer Hosterman, City Councilman Jerry Thorne and school board members.

The Amador Marching Band will also be making an appearance this year, being one of the first bands on Main Street!. So come on out and support music in Pleasanton!

The parade will start with the police leading, followed by the VFW colorguard. Then Foothill’s marching band and Amador’s marching band. Later in the parade Livermore, Granada, Dublin, Califormia and Wells Middle School will perform. At the end of the parade will be the largest non-Pleasanton bands.
