Andy Jorgensen, Pleasanton’s Civic Arts manager, will be recognized by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors today with the county’s 2010 arts leadership award for his achievements and contributions impacting the arts community and residents of Alameda County.
Jorgensen, who had a leading role in developing, building and opening the city’s new $10-million Firehouse Arts Center earlier this month, was recognized by the Alameda County Arts Commission for his work in organizing and serving as executive director of the Children’s Theater Workshop in Pleasanton
The county board will commend Jorgensen and five others who are also being honored at its meeting at the Alameda County Administration Building, Board Chamber, 1221 Oak Street, 5th floor, Oakland.
The others were being recognized are:
Lilia Reynoso of Union City, for her work as a member of the Union City Public Art Board, a member of Ollin Anahuac Traditional Aztec Dance Group and a board member of the Art Association of the East Bay, Inc.
Frederick Chacon of Alameda , for his work as artistic director of the Altarena Playhouse in Alameda and Director and Drama Program Educator at Alameda High School.
Jimi Evins of Oakland for his work as Art Program Director and Arts Educator at the East Oakland Youth Development Center, and Raymond Patton (Pat) Parr II of Castro Valley for his work as a board member of the Castro Valley Arts Foundation and as the Founding Director and Co-Artistic Director of the Pacific Coast Repertory Theatre.
Khalil Shaheed of Oakland for his work as the founder and director of the Oaktown Jazz Workshops.
The Alameda County Arts Commission selected these individuals from a group of nominees whose names were submitted by the public. Award recipients were selected based on their achievements within the arts field and their contributions to the community.
The annual program usually recognizes five individuals, one from each supervisorial district. This year, two individuals received tie-votes in supervisorial district four; therefore, six individuals were selected.
This event is also presented in conjunction with the county’s celebration of California Arts Day.

It is a fitting award for a man who has given much of his adult life to the service of Pleasanton and the expansion of its cultural arts programs. Congratulations Andy on being recognized for the programs that have brought so many joy, and the amazing work which made the Firehouse Theatre a reality.
All I can say is that Andy is so deserving of this recognition. Bravo Andy, Bravo!
Andy Jorgensen is the absolutely best! He has impacted thousand of people in Pleasanton. His love of the arts and his love of Pleasanton are well known to all who know Andy. Congratulations! We are so proud of you and what you have done for all of us! Thank you!
