An allegedly drunk, unlicensed driver made a total of five hit and run collisions Sunday, hitting a bicyclist, a pedestrian, a truck, a light pole, and then a Sports Utility Vehicle, according to the Danville Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of a dangerous driver along Danville Boulevard and Railroad Avenue at about 10 a.m. this morning, according to the police department.

Upon investigation, officers learned that the driver was traveling southbound on Danville Boulevard when he struck a bicyclist also traveling southbound in the bike lane. The driver did not stop at the scene, and continued southbound, where he hit a pedestrian standing in the bike lane.

The driver then swerved into the traffic lane and collided with a Ford pick-up truck, and continued onto southbound Railroad Avenue, where he traveled up onto the sidewalk and knocked a light pole to the ground. The driver then continued southbound on Railroad Avenue to Linda Mesa Avenue, where he collided with the rear of a Lexus SUV.

The driver, 23-year-old Cainan Schierholtz, never stopped at any of the collisions, according to the police department. Witnesses followed Schierholtz to the intersection of Montair Drive and Macomber Road, where police took him into custody.

The bicyclist was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and treated for multiple abrasions, contusions and minor head lacerations. The pedestrian and two occupants of the Lexus SUV sought their own medical treatment. The driver of the Ford truck was uninjured.

Schierholtz was booked for four counts of DUI causing bodily harm, three counts of hit and run causing personal injury, two counts of hit and run property damage, and driving without a license. He is being held on $350,000 bail.

Anyone with further information on this incident is encouraged to call the lead traffic investigator, Danville Police Officer Julie Parish at (925) 314-3700.

  1. I got hit up by the same lady in the Safeway parking lot last week as well. When she asked me for money, I told I was a struggling single mom too……………..she just walked away.

  2. I moved here a few months ago from Fremont where the same woman would troll the Target/Safeway lots for YEARS. I saw her here in Pleasanton on Good Friday, too.

  3. I donate to charitable causes that I know have very low overhead such that most of the incoming funds go out to help the needy. I never give cash to anyone on the street anymore. My experience has been that many people on the street use the money for cigarettes, booze or worse. At least that is what I begin to believe when they turn down an offer to buy them a meal at a nearby store.

  4. Thank you Anne! I looked up one of their charities and it was some church in Delaware. I watched as the guy in front of Target Livermore pulled out a huge wad of cash one day and told somebody he was talking to on the phone he had plenty, not sure if he was talking about the money or what not, these guys are setting up shop in our area because they are making a killing! Please people stop giving to them, they are not legit.

  5. Ryan, He’s already banned from driving; no license. It did a lot of good. It’s hard to figure out what to do with “people” like this. Execution seems extreme. Life in prison is expensive. Nothing else seems effective. What the world needs is a device that can be implanted near the heart, then explodes when the blood alcohol level reaches 0.02%. Bingo.

  6. The fact that this is not the first time that this young man has been involved in an alcohol related incident shows that he needs help. I just hope that his parents can convince him to get the help that he needs. Maybe this will be the wake up call that both he and his family need.

  7. I was driving through Danville yesterday and saw the damaged bicycle on the side of the road and police investigators on the scene. It was a child’s bicycle and I was wondering how this happened. I’m glad to read that the child isn’t seriously injured and that this dangerous driver has been arrested. I just hope that they keep the driver in jail and administer a suitable punishment.
