Drivers alert: A portion of eastbound I-580 will be closed late tonight in the vicinity of the new BART station near Foothill Road.

BART and Caltrans will need to close a portion of eastbound lanes starting at 11 p.m. Saturday for the second weekend in a row to complete the installation of an aerial pedestrian pathway from the Pleasanton side of the new BART station to the station platform, which is located in the center median of the freeway.

The work started last Saturday night, but is taking two days to complete.

Off-ramps from eastbound I-580 to northbound and southbound I-680 will also be closed during these periods.

The aerial pathway connecting the station to Dublin was installed last month.

“We are continuing our bridge installation work very late at night on July 17 and 18 in a time frame that has the least impact to our community,” said BART board member John McPartland, who represents the Tri-Valley area. “While segments of I-580 and on-ramps to I-680 are closed, drivers will need to use the designated street detours.”

Eastbound I-580 will have two lanes closed from 11 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday. Ramp closures during this time will include the Eastbound I-580 at the San Ramon/Foothill roads on-ramp and the eastbound I-580 off-ramps to northbound and southbound I-680.

From 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. there will be a full closure of eastbound I-580 at the West Dublin-Pleasanton BART Station. Traffic will be detoured.

Eastbound I-580 Detour: Take the Foothill Rd. off-ramp and merge with Foothill Rd. Continue to Stoneridge Drive. Turn left and continue to I-680. Take northbound I-680 and continue to the westbound I-580 off-ramp. Travelers should expect a delay of about six minutes for this detour.

Members of the public who have questions or concerns about the closure may call 1-(866) 435-BART (1-866-435-2278).

  1. Well, you know, as an Asian-American, I feel bad for Grant died accidently. However, at the same time, I feel sorry for the cop have to go to jail for this trouble making, causing him mayble use the wrong weapon or loss control in a stressful environment. In a situation like this when more than one persons are at the scene, you got to do thing to protect yourself than to be hurted. In this case, I think the cop tried to sudue him and now this reverse pressure put this cop in jail. Should these people not causing troubles, this wouldn’t had happened to everyone.

Talking about this, recent violents against Asian-American in SF, Oakland, and Philidelphia to innocent Asian-Americans because Blacks are racist and hateful crimes. I stand no sympathy for these people. Not because I had blacks. There are good blacks and my friends I have associate in normal way. But I know there are rough neighborhood and violents people just try to stay out or protect themselves. No exception to cop
