The CORE (Community OutReach for Education)
campaign is winding down, but there are a couple of last-minute ways to help out.
The 99 Ranch Market on Rosewood Drive in Pleasanton is pledging 3 percent of today’s revenues to CORE. The store will open early at 8 a.m. so people can stop by on their way to work.
A coupon book for downtown merchants is also available. The book, which sells for $10, offers discounts to local vendors. Those books can be purchased at the schools or picked up at school administrative offices.
Those last-minute funds could help bump totals to new funding levels, which would mean additional library assistants’ or technical staff hours.
As of last week, Core had raised $442,348.
Elementary schools have brought in $258,752. That puts them at 64 percent of their target of $399,375, and the latest money raised has bumped elementary schools to their next level of funding: three hours tech support and two hours additional library per day per site.
Currently, middle schools have raised $84,028, about 36 percent of their goal. That’s enough to provide middle schools two-and-a-half hours additional for library assistants and two hours tech support per day per site. If middle schools can reach $92,813, that will pay for three hours of tech support per day per site.
High schools have raised $89,185, or 27 percent of their target. If their fundraising tops $100,000, Amador Valley and Foothill will each get $45,000 for technology support and Village will receive $10,000; if less than $100,000 is raised the high schools will decide for themselves where the money will be spent.
Although campaign officially ends today, CORE will continue to accept donations.
Downtown businesses are selling the coupon books as well. Here are se examples of the coupons in the book: Cold Stone, Murphy’s Paw, Your Stage Toys, Gourmet Works, Pasta’s, Barones, passionate Athlete (40% off…wow,) and many more.
It would be nice if Safeway, Walmart, and Lucky’s do the same for our schools.

Safeway does. It’s called ‘scrip’ and it provides 4% back to the school/organization year round, all the time. There’s also e-scrip. Contact your local school. You can participate even if you don’t have a child/student. Ask a friend with a student. Raley’s, Gene’s and others participate as well.
Safeway and Walmart help local schools in other ways. Safeway is part of the Escrip program (www.escrip.com). If you register your Safeway club card you can specify an organziation that a percentage of your shopping dollars go to. The amonts and products vary, but do add up and non profits can make quite a bit of money from these programs. Walmart Gift cards are available through a program called Shop With Scrip. Signing up for escrip is very easy by visiting the website. You will want to check with your local school regarding shop with scrip and other such programs if you’d like to help. Take care
