Downtown Pleasanton’s Towne Center Books will host authors and an illustrator of children’s books at a free public event from 1 – 3 p.m. today at its store at 555 Main St.

Called the kids’ “Otter” Read Day,” it’s the second annual event of its kind held under the auspices of the Northern California Children’s Bookseller’s Association, an organization of independent bookstores.

Appearing in Pleasanton will be:

• Gennifer Choldenko, who received the Newbery Honor for a series on Al Capone;

• Elizabeth Partridge, creator of picture books plus award winning nonfiction;

• Frank Portman, author of teen books King Dork and Andromeda Klein, who will also play his guitar;

• Lisa Brown, creator of the Baby Be of Use board books and more;

• Hillary Holmzie, creator of the “Alien’s From Outer Space” series and more; and,

• Alexandra Boiger, an illustrator of “Thank you Emily Post,” “Hello, Mrs. Piggle Wiggle,” and more.

After the presentations, these individuals will join with the public in discussions over refreshments and music to be provided by Towne Center Books.
