Meg Whitman, the leading candidate for the Republican nomination for governor in the June 8 primary, issued the following statement yesterday after state Attorney General Jerry Brown announced that he will seek the Democratic Party nomination for governor in the June 8 primary:

“I welcome Jerry Brown to the race and look forward to an important conversation with Californians.

Never before have voters had a bigger choice about the future. I have spent my career in the private sector, creating jobs and delivering results. Jerry Brown has had a 40-year career in politics which has resulted in a trail of failed experiments, undelivered promises, big government spending and higher taxes.

I look forward to the coming campaign debate over which path California will choose in the future; repeating the mistakes of the past or working together to build A New California with more jobs, less wasteful spending and greatly improved schools.”

  1. Editor: welcoms should be correctly spelled welcomes

    Pleasanton: please remember that Brown sued Pleasanton for not having enough low income housing. Is this what you want for the state of California? I am not a fan of Meg, but anyone but Brown will get my vote.

  5. Jerry Brown is representative of what is wrong with CA…We keep electing democrats and now our state no longer is a job creation leader, in fact, businesses continue to leave in droves.

    At least Whitman has strong business and managing large enterprises experience, and has been successful at it, something that is lacking in CA government and our current President’s Administration where lifetime public service careers with fat pensions are prevalent.

    I look forward to the first debate.

  6. dublinmike—all politicians are hypocrites. Meg is just starting to hone that skill whereas Moonbeam and those of his ilk are already very adept at talking out of both sides of their mouths.
    I have to respect her in that she has at least held a responsible position and been successful.
    What has Jerry Brown accomplished that’s positive?

  7. I lived here when Jerry was Governor. Boy did we get “change you can believe in.” He halted freeway construction in mid-span. I still remember driving through San Jose and, for many years, looking at the freeway flyovers off 680/280 that halted their path in the middle of construction. We got to look at his “accomplishment” for many years after he left office.

  8. I agree JERRY BROWN OTHERWISE KNOWN AS GOVERNOR MOONBEAM is what is the matter with CALIFORNIA. THEY SAY THE PEOPLE GET THE GOVERNMENT THEY ELECT, LETS THIS TIME GET IT RIGHT AND ELECT MEG RYAN, WE NEED JOBS AND A MOVING ECONOMY. WE HAVE NOT HAD EITHER WITH THE DEMOCRATES RUNNING THIS STATE.

  11. Remember also that Whitman is not running for Governor because she needs the money. She is running for Governor to save her beloved State. Without a 180 degree change from democrat policies, this State will fail…and soon.

  12. I’m no fan of Jerry Brown, but would you want Meg taking out your appendix or piloting your 747 flight to Hawaii? She has about as much experience at those things as the political/governmental process in California. Please send me a moderate that knows what they’re doing! Is that too much to ask???

So let us say “Thank You very much for providing her portion $162 million dollar “Stimulus Package” contribution to “The Kalifornia Economy” For those that work in Political campaigning, Media, printing, air time, photographers, News People, Fuel, tires, Restaurants, Motels & more. “THANK YOU!
